--I think it a near perfect Conan game. I second that although there are several rules I skip (or rather forget) in order to keep the game flowing That's a good point; practicality. If you forget to apply rules, or just skip them, what are they there for? They only take space on paper and in your m...

This is what I have done: Sounds like you're a fan of 1E or 2E AD&D. I love both of those editions, for different reasons, though I don't think I'd like a stripped down version of Conan. Of course, the Mongoose version blows me away--I think it a near perfect Conan game. I like both, yes. But more ...

I have been working in my spare time to a downsized version of d20 Conan, which retained the basic characteristics of the game but removed the more crunchy parts. What would you remove? This is what I have done: 1) Create four racial "prototypes": Barbarian, Nomadic, Civilised, Decadent. Essentiall...

I would like a new Conan game. Now when the d20 boom(when everything was turning d20 like on some principle) is over I don’t see why not move Conan away from it. At least in the 3,5 form. No I’m not bashing d20 but D&D 3,5,even with the revisions for Conan RPG, sucks on howardian sword&sorcery (but...

Speaking of BRP and BRP clones...the original Stormbringer worked quite well; once a character reaches high skill levels in fighting, the dead start piling

It would also be interesting to see Lankhmar and Stormbringer.
For example, Lankhmar has White Magic and Black Magic. That could be modeled by using Scholars and classifying the sorcery styles according to their effects.
In Stormbringer, sorcery would mainly consist in Summoning and Necromancy.

I would say, think in terms of the effect the maneuver should have. Slightly unrelated, but something similar happened in my latest Classic D&D session. The player said he wanted to knock down the orc. I allowed a to hit roll with a penalty; if he succeeded the orc would be on the ground and lose th...

Also some weapons require special Training to use properly (the Long Sword) or even at all (the War Lance requires you have the Ride Warhorse ability) but anyone can use fairly much any weapon just some are better (in some cases much better) at doing so. ? where is it written that a sword requires ...

More than fixing actual errata, 2nd edition seems more about changing some things and adding others.

Putting notes in the old book worked well for me. There weren't that many errors; most are small typos and one or two word changes.

The most relevant errata was addressed from the 1st printing to the Atlantean Edition. I don't know the status of the 2nd edition, though.

Good points, in particular the fact that d20 Conan is even crunchier than D&D 3.5, in particular when it comes to combat. Probably not the kind of advice you are looking for, but I have simplified the game in many aspects: 1) Get a number of skills at first level, and maximise their ranks. This effe...

In basic terms, what would be neat is a low-involvement method of allowing light weapons extra attacks a very small percentage of the time. A simple rule might be to state that when combatants are engaged into melee, those who have lighter weapons may make one more attack for each size category dif...

I don't find AD&D combat slow at all; at least not as slow as 3e or Conan when attacks of opportunity or tons of modifiers (or unarmed combat!) enter into play.
Some of the intricacies of combat in AD&D only enter into play with initiative ties. Otherwise, it's quite smooth.

And, I wouldn't touch the Conan RPG magic system. I think its brilliant. D&D can keep its system. I just liked the extra "umph" that a dagger gets when used against a slower, bigger weapon. I am not sure I understand what you did. I quoted the AD&D text since you spoke about AD&D's speed factor as ...

If you are going with the AD&D system, don't forget how spellcasters are dealt with under AD&D rules. The system makes casting in melee a very dangerous proposition. Oh, and in AD&D, you could get at most THREE attacks if your speed factor was low enough, not the actual ratio of factors. The actual ...

Ah, yes, thanks. It seems like there should be some benefit from the first attack--like a +2 to hit for the first attack only. This nods back to first edition AD&D where the character with the longer weapon attacked first, regardless of regular initiative, on the first round of combat only. A yes 1...
