Topic: How good are the "older" Conan's and Kull's comics

The newer (started in 2004) Conan series by Dark Horse Comics (issue 39 was just published) is fantastic - very much a REH vibe to it and it is written for the more mature reader. The older Marvel series Conan the Barbarian (275 issues) had its ups and downs - I've always liked the first 100 issues ...

We usually use the value of the gemstones that the players get as "enough to put you up in (whatever city they are in) for a couple of weeks" with lodging, food, wenching, gambling and drinking, or to resupply for the next adventure. We don't worry too much about the actual sp/gp value of them. For ...

Yeah, that bummed me out as well. I always look forward to the new S&P, but two issues in a row with no Conan material really stinks. Maybe next month?

This is a great idea. I would definately buy it. The only complaint that I have about the Conan sourcebooks is their lack of maps.

I also prefer smaller parties of 2-4 characters, it just feels more like Howard's Conan to me.

I remember the first Ravenloft AD&D adventure from back when I first started gaming. Very cool - I agree that it could be adapted into Conan fairly easily. let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the comments. I'm a sucker for a good pirate adventure, so I picked this up a while back but haven't had a chance to read it through yet.

Good suggestions!

I also was first introduced to Conan throught Marvel's Conan the Barbarian comics. I didn't discover Savage Sword until much later. I reread my entire collection last year and had a blast! You are right, there are a lot of great stories in there. Plus, tons of Conan RPG ideas.

I don't mean to sound like this is a bad product. Actually, it is excellent and everything a regional sourcebook should be - except the map. Other than the lack of a detailed regional map, Shem is a great book and very useful sourcebook.

I agree, the lack of a regional map was very disappointing to me as well. I'm keep hoping that Mongoose gets its act together for some better/upgraded maps.

I've always like the Robert Jordan Conan books. I've also liked the two Leonard Carpenter books that I've recently read "Conan of the Red Brotherhood" and "Scourge of the Bloody Coast". They are two parts of the same story, not a "to be continued", but they feature a lot of the same characters. It a...

It was a fun movie, if your expectations were low :D I once did a brief study of the various movies to see where they fit in the chronology. I put Red Sonja in Hyperborea, after the Cimmerians have migrated to Turan. I can fill in the reasoning if anyone cares! I'll bite ... Let's hear it. I've onl...

Thanks! I'll sometimes use recurring NPC's that the players encounter several times over a campaign. Since I like the NPCs to advance so they still pose a challenge to the characters, this will help out a lot!

I don't mind the wait much, as I need to catch up on my purchases anyway. I am also a little concerned about the changes for the 2nd edition. Hopefully, it is just some corrections, additions, clarifications and expansions rather than sweeping changes. I do remain confident in Mongoose to produce qu...
