Re: Martial Arts in Traveller - Planet Mongoose

Not often I criticise, Matthew, but this may be one area best avoided - for example, my martial art I did, up till injury caused problems, was a hard jujitsu style where we would have been classed as "Defensive", "Grappling" and possibly "Soft" (from the way you described it as being throws), in tha...

Re: A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Rules Preview

Good points... I was kinda hoping for more difference, to be honest - something to show the progression from the Old CL style to the newer saucer shapes...

Scoutdad: Good... :P

(Me? Jealous? Nah...) :D

(Scoutdad: kidding m8... you really have my sympathy). :(

Re: A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Rules Preview

Scoutdad: Would be nice, on the other hand, if they could design and release a 1600-series alternative design... preferably one that looks a little more like the old CL design, but with a definite design progression to the 1700 series. Maybe, rather than a saucer, maybe a 1700 design but with an ang...

Re: Did commdots ever get erratted?

I didn't - I always assumed they meant that commdots were like the bluetooth headsets - able to communicate a few metres, but really intended to tie into a larger communicator or shipboard comms systems.

Re: ACTA SF

Matthew, whatever you're paying Sandrine, it's not enough! :)

That's a huge improvement over the older model... it looks related to both native romulan families of ships and ties them together.

Where's a thumbs up smilie when you need one?

Someone's Birthday??

Matthew: Is it really your birthday today???

If so, Happy Birthday - I hope you're not working late again and actually took the afternoon off... although I doubt it from the posting on here... :)

Re: ACTA SF

Matthew: Any chance of getting those variants through direct sales? I'd like the variant CCs for example, but I'm on limited funds and nowhere near enough to anyone else to get to a tournament, let alone actually win one (I doubt they'd want someone taking part who'd never played the game either). I...

Re: ACTA SF

Excellent news, Matthew - I've got the 2400 series version and it's not the best ADB made, let's put it that way... It's so heavy, too, I reckon that it could be classed as a deadly weapon if it were to be thrown at someone... the boom practically counterweights the rear hull. :) I'm honestly lookin...

James: Already done - TL dictates both speed and range for any powered template (and, if memory serves, the wind-powered ones too).

Re: Planet Mongoose takes on the Vehicle Handbook

Battle Dress uses a "Slot" which is roughly equivilent to a pistol in size. A vehicle weapon of up to 3 Spaces can be mounted on a Battle Dress - the exact number dictates where the weapon can be mounted - 1 Space on the arms, 2 on the shoulders (presumably an up-and-over mount?) and 3 on the back (...

Re: A Question about an alternative spinward marches campaig

To be perfectly honest, I don't know why you don't just make your own sector from scratch - all the power centres would have shifted in any case, so you might as well roll up a whole new area to work with - that way you can throw out anything you don't like (like the Zhodani or the Aslan, for exampl...

Re: Planet Mongoose takes on the Vehicle Handbook

Calculator nothing - already got the spreadsheet made up... :) And please don't suggest any more changes - I fear Matthew may go on a killing spree if we were to do so... The biggest "complication" with the system is that there is just so many different modifications, weapons, equipment opti...

Re: Preferences in adventure settings

Well, to be honest, there's nothing wrong with having a base of operations while they're finding their feet and learning what they can and cannot do, but then nudge them on if you need to (hired bounty hunters, upset corporates and the like all work well here). Most traditional D&D groups started ou...

Re: Preferences in adventure settings

Usually, in all systems, I've used the "sandbox campaign" style - where a player group decides where they wish to go and what they wish to do - I'll drop a few hooks in, with a simplicity appropriate to the difficulty and payoff (ie an easier or better-paying job will be harder to spot, meaning that...

Re: Character Generation CheckList

It says to pick from the list only if your character doesn't come from a planet that the referee (and/or the books if in the OTU, which is much the same thing) has already created. Most referees will insist on an existing planet, so it's more a case of look them up. You can have any number, by impli...

Re: How do you handle playing or running a game with noble P

To me, titles and SOC are independant. SOC is the Fame of the character, combined with the Social Skills of the character, nothing more. If you can talk your way out of a tight situation, time and time again, you'll become famous in your own circle. If you're in the public eye, that SOC applies both...
