Re: SST MI Values

The game was dropped long ago. IIRC the army book values are correct, although there was an errata which changed some of the values and options. I no longer have a copy myself to check.

Remember the Fleet Updates are playtest material, throw in loads of stuff from those and you can forget about balance.

Re: Where are all the pics of painted minis? SF

Nice job. One bit of advice if you buy anything from them in WSF again: it's a good idea to give them a couple of coats of varnish before painting to reduce the roughness of the surface (got a few WW1 planes and things in that material, but I usually go for the much smoother white detail material un...

Re: Two newbie questions/clarifications

1) The example's wrong, maybe from an earlier version of the rules. When you take a critical, just go by the table effects i.e. you take the point of damage as with a normal hit, increase the critical score of that system by 1 and apply any effects listed on the table for that entry. You only take a...

Re: Just got my first models...

Make sure you test-fit everything first, some parts will need a bit of filing to fit snugly. I got away with just using superglue gel for everything (roughened the contact points with a file in the case of the Fed saucers and Klingon engine/wing parts). The plugs on the C8 aren't as hard to deal wit...

Re: Interseting new move in Fed ship design on the ADB forum

Not really, seems more like an OCL-era ship pulled put of the museum. Secondary hull doesn't work for me (to many "layers"), but I'm OK with the rest of it.

Re: Fleet Update #2 - Ready for Free Download

I take it that the Gorn BC which is the refitted heavy cruiser is considered, like the D7, to be a cruiser and therefore not restricted to two ships. Should be. Couldn't find the full list over at ADB, but it was 2x Heavy Battlecruisers max per 12 ships in the draft rules. Armoured drones. Since an...

Re: Missing Weapons and traits on certain ships

Also remember that ACTA:SF is based on Federation Commander rather than SFB, and in the case of Photon Torpedoes proximity warheads don't exist in that game either (among many other changes).

Re: [ACTA:SF] Looking for rules clarifications ***new quest

I'd consider dropping the Mobile Base, I think having a second station/sink on one side is what's unbalancing more than the way the rules work.

Re: [ACTA:SF] Looking for rules clarifications ***new quest

Yes, they just count as ships in this flavour of ACTA (in the B5 variety, bases couldn't be nominated in the movement phase but they didn't use Special Actions in that game).

Bases can't turn, they have the Immobile trait which isn't the same as a ship at speed zero.

Re: [ACTA:SF] Looking for rules clarifications

1) No, weapons don't get Stealth from terrain effects (it specifically says ships, Matt ruled on this previously http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=50124 ). 2) You roll a number of Attack Dice equal to the distance moved, with Accurate +2 applied. So 2+ to hit, natural sixes b...

Re: Plasma torpedos How do they work?

Plasma automatically impacts the target unless dealt with using one of the methods noted in the rules, so at half range all 7 dice would strike the target (no roll to hit, so no chance to bypass shields). As the weapon has the Multihit D6 trait, you'd roll 7xD6 and apply that number of hits to the t...

Re: Transport Marines!

Interesting ideas certainly, although I'm not convinced that it wouldn't be a bit overpowered in a typical ACTA game where you could have multiple ships jump on a shieldless enemy with relatively little risk attached compared to the current rules, especially if you could choose your target (those fo...

Re: Crews

I'd suggest few ships survive your games because there's no need to preserve them beyond that :) In campaign play I've found that there's more of a tendency to disengage ships if they're in danger of being crippled or destroyed, or when you don't still have a reasonable chance of winning, rather tha...

Re: Extra power from Torpedo's

Doesn't matter, you can pick any of the 3 Power Drain penalties unless limited by damage. In the source games, plasma tubes are either empty, holding a charged-up torpedo or reloading. Only the last consumes a large amount of available energy (and typically only on the final turn of arming, ACTA sim...

Re: How does A Call to Arms differ then Starfleet Battles?

Got ninja'd there, but half my post's still relevant :) Of the two, ACTA:SF's a lot simpler and faster playing since it's a fleet level game. SFB focuses more on individual ships and is far more detailed and complex (note that ADB also publishes Federation Commander which falls somewhere between the...

Re: Size of Army in Starship Troopers

As you're probably aware, the miniatures aren't being produced any more so you'll be limited to what you can pick up privately or scavenge from remainders in stores. Could be an issue for putting together an Arachnid force although you can find decent proxies for Mobile Infantry and Skinnies if need...

Re: Skilled Captain Skill Questions

I'd just ignore the Power Drain on one of the 2 actions if you chose two of them with that penalty, and just take it as the captain knowing how to push his ship and crew in an emergency (a "heroic moment" if you like), since it's once per game only.
