Re: JTAS sensor rules

You can not extract useful energy from waste heat [...]. The thermoelectric effect begs to differ. And advances into that field of research are being made: https://phys.org/news/2019-11-material-world-electricity.html Yes, they are talking small scale electrics in that article. But this is not to s...

Re: Become a Journalist for the Travellers' Aid Society!

And yet another question:

If we submit ship designs, will there be space for deck plans in the new JTAS issues? And if so, do we have to submit these, too, or will you draw them?

Re: JTAS sensor rules

The exponential scale totally makes sense. I especially like that it adds negative DMs for minuscule power consumption (and generation). I think I will just copy that for my game.

Re: JTAS sensor rules

I was thinking in a similar direction. What is your DM formula? I was thinking something like 25% increments going from +1 to +4. Alternatively +1 per 100 power points?

Also, size should somehow play a part in detection, if not so much in target acquisition.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Thanks, paltrysum, for sharing your campaigns summaries. I'm really looking forward to this episode with my own players and still not sure, what I'd like better as an outcome of the episode: TL-16 AIs as potential allies of Drinax or Neumann suffering a massive outbreak of Grey Goo with AI swarms de...

Re: JTAS sensor rules

I don't think there's an allowance in the rules for heat output and reactor size in the sensor rules. Should there be one? That might offer another option - reducing your ship's reactor output to make one's ship less visible. Although I'd assume Stealth systems handle this in various ways. We have ...

Re: JTAS sensor rules

I find it best to use these rules together with the transponder rules from the Companion. Imagine that most ships are civilians with their civilian sensor package being turned on and the transponder broadcasting the identity of the ship all the time. Your average sneaky pirate with a Type-A vessel w...

Re: Previewing Traveller Material

Personally, I use Twitter more often than Facebook. YouTube videos of course are nice for giving a larger audience visual input. But videos are much harder to create and can really look terrible. It's a serious investment.

Re: Core Rulebook and Starter Set Notice

The Tinath milieu is a subsector and campaign featured in the starter set. Information about it was exclusive to this set, which omitted the information on the Sindal subsector from the core rulebook, but instead delivered the aforementioned milieu. Tinath lies far beyond chartered space, but within...

Re: Garinaembreight are tough

Yes, combat is deadly. My players were wounded quite a bit, too, although I reduced combat somewhat. I also used Marooned on Marduk as an opening scenario for PoD. In my version the players were "asked" by the Imperial Consul on Drinax, to ferry him to a meeting with GeDeCo on Marduk. The consul is ...

Absolutely, since that chapter also gives rules for layered defences by smaller ships for their larger squadron mates.

Re: Torpedoes and Missiles

You could always have the EW roll modified by range. That should be the case, in my opinion. We use the JTAS sensor rules and I think missile combat and EW needs to be modified along them. The question e. g. remains, when sensors would pick up missiles: they burn in at high Gs, but they're also ver...

Re: Sword Worlds - ebook & Pre-Order

Playing Sword Worlders, and portraying them in a game, can be tricky. It is easy to slide into stereotypes – macho chauvinists who swear by Odin all the time and think they are better than everyone else, taking stupid risks for no good reason. The reality is far more complex and much more interesti...

Re: Question about Stunners

I was going to say that 5kg seems heavy for a rifle, but that's what a rifle is. Weird, since the ACR is only 3kg... various rifle masses seems a little chaotic when I look at them. Don't get me started on weights of weapons in MgT2. Swords for up to 4 kg, axes for 6 kg and rapiers for 2 kg? Are cl...
