Re: JTAS has arrived¬
Good news! Did you try to upload it on a file uploader and use the image tags? I presume a direct upload is not possible, since traffic would bust Mongoose's wallet.

Re: How to let players generate the characters they want without letting them min/max?
The package-based character generation in the Traveller Companion is a good answer to this. Otherwise, there are various house rules used to make the system more malleable, some of which were recently talked about in another thread: http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=122239 Al...

Re: What's Traveller5 like?
IMO Traveller has always been science fantasy. Even in classic there was the Ancients & their artifacts. Amen! Just because you make your players use formulas to know how long it takes to get travel between two planets or have them roll a couple of D66s to determine freights available, doesn't make...

Re: Ship Mortgage and Maintenance Calculator
Would you be able to add a feature for calculations on ships that have been paif off partially and remortgaged? As in the case of roling multiple mustering out benefits of a ship, but no ship shares? The rules allow for each additional mustering out result to either apply as a 25% reduction in years...

Re: Business model for Xboat Couriers in the Spinward Marches
Now all I have to do is figure out what the "market" or "traffic" value is for any given world that wants to send stuff via Xboats. I think, that's the big point, too. So, take e. g. big corporations like GeDeCo or even bigger ones that need to send important data on financial transactions, researc...

Re: State of the Mongoose 2019
Oh, you're right, I forgot about Book 8 from back in the day. I probably should read it sometime. But the topic definitely got a different vibe in the late 70s and then the 80s, after Star Wars Droids, Terminator and then Data in ST:TNG.

Re: State of the Mongoose 2019
Robots are indeed on the cards, but will not be rushed - a lot of thought needs to go into them. Wow! Excited to heat that! That would be a huge step for Traveller. I always found artificial life to be underrepresented in Traveller. Probably since this topic wasn't as huge in the late 1970s as it b...

Re: State of the Mongoose 2019
You talk about the website etc. Can we get the ability to use avatars on the forum please . It's deadly dull with everyone having ? images and no ability to have avatars. Never had any use for them on a forum myself, but know some like them. It sure makes identifying authors easier. So, it's not st...

I bet you're right. I can think of a couple of German equipment lists at least, which give completely unreasonable weights.M J Dougherty wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2019 12:15 pmI think a lot of games just copied what was in the early D&D manuals.

Re: What would it be worth in Traveller?
Okay, the numbers and units got a bit mixed up here, I think. The karat (BE 'carat', not carrot, like the vegetable) measures fineness, not mass, with 24 karat denominating gold with a purity of 999 parts per thousand (i. e. millesimal fineness). Now, there is also another form of carat (note the di...

Re: Studying Athletics at university
For EU/US readers note that what's missing is not just a university to do sport at, but the whole "professional" league for college sport that the US has that doesn't really exist in the most of the EU. I'd absolutely give my players the choice to take Athletics at university level. University spor...

Re: Deepnight Revelation
Indeed, Voidshore is the proper name. However, I'm curious how far out the campaign will take the Travellers? The claim "further" than any Traveller ever went (somewhere in this thread) is bold, considering the 6,000 pc the Zhodani went so far towards the core.

Re: Your thoughts on a query?
I'm not a fan of merciless cold blooded murder of PCs if there are other options. I find it's generally a turn off for most players. I absolutely agree that player agency as, so to say, should have the final verdict. On the other hand, if players don't act or act to their own detriment, I would arg...

Well you eiither assume they have everything, or nothing, or you play Spreadsheets In Space If I had do a granular system I would probably use "supply points" that can magic minor items by spending (edit: with a dice roll?), and track major items like modular cutters and nuke warheads indivudally I...
