Re: So this Combat Arm from the Central Supply Catalogue I just got as a benefit...

We do know that astronauts in zero-G for any serious time get on average 2cm taller as their vertebrae loosen and lengthen and then lose that 2cm back on earth as it compresses again. The rest is speculation but speculation that is fairly agreed that Belters and Martian colonists would probably be t...

Re: So if I got a smuggling container in my body what could I realistically smuggle into prison using it?

Now visualising the smuggler removing his 5 kg Body ACR part by part and finding he can't actually fire it properly because one of his arms has gone all floppy... Also obscurely reminded of Jack's posh English girlfriend in 30 Rock who has Hollow Bone Syndrome... At TL15 or even 12 I'd say all sorts...

Re: So if I got a smuggling container in my body what could I realistically smuggle into prison using it?

Did same thing with the ruler and just can't visualise where you would fit that 8 inch diameter object that is the size of a football and weighs almost as much as 5 bags of sugar... 0.5 kg and 8 cm - more like a baseball - seems more plausible and might just be big enough space for a dismantled body...

Re: [Freelance Traveller] March/April 2017 Posted!

Freelance Traveller has been down for several days now.

Please someone tell me it is not permanent as this is now by the far the best Traveller fansite and I always look forward to each new issue.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised that nobody wants to address such an unpleasant issue...

So if I got a smuggling container in my body what could I realistically smuggle into prison using it?

I find all this rather eye-watering to comtemplate but sometimes a Traveller has to do what a Traveller has to do... The dear old Central Supply Catalogue has this augment: SMUGGLING CONTAINER A portion of the Traveller’s body is surgically modified to house a polymer pocket, covered by what appears...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

OK lets take a trip in actual canonical J6 ship: You are captain of a Type TJ Imperiallines Frontier Transport which somehow has been built and allowed to operate as an actual transport rather than a covert J6 courier. The Aramis Adventure where this ship appears uses 1st edition design but the High...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

And its 86,000 not 84,000 per ton at J6 - I was quoting from memory. Which completely upends the old reality that only Jump-1 ships could make a reliable living from freight and passengers alone - now find the money to build a Jump 6-ship and two hi pop hi tech worlds 6 parsecs from each other and e...

Re: Solomani Confederation (Military)

Incidentally GURPS Traveller Ground Forces has the Keith-class 30,000 ton troop transport which can carry an entire Imperial infantry brigade, its integral armour and artillery and six 1,200 ton Landing Craft to get them on planet. Given that it is also Jump-4 I rather doubt that design would work i...

Re: Solomani Confederation (Military)

Also putting an entire division on one ship which if it is full of troops and tanks and their supplies won't be particularly well armoured or defended against attack seems a pretty surefire way to lose an entire division without it even getting on planet. Plus what is it going to do all those years ...

Re: Is there a place that is culturally cybernetic?

One problem is that if your cyborg character survives into around 1130 then according to Traveller canon he will end up with not just any computer virus but VIRUS taking over all his augments and become a literal meat puppet. And even before then attack by computer viruses or just a 100 credit EMP g...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

By the way oif anyone was mad enough to offer you mortgage finance on the J6 2,500 ton type TJ Imperiallines ship in the Aramis Adventure it would cost 1.1 BILLION credits to build Which divided by 240 is 4.6 million credits per month to finance the loan However it has 267 tons of cargo space so at ...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

It not that simple... A J-6 ship that can carry 1000 Dt payload is about 7000 Dt (incl. 4200 Dt fuel tanks) and costs MCr 2600 . A J-6 ship using drop tanks that can carry 1000 Dt payload is about 1500 Dt and costs MCr 600 plus a drop tank of 900 Dt and MCr 23. It's expensive to jump around empty f...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

Also there are Imperial Nobles so rich that money is no object at all - so having a J-6 yacht that uses the 60% fuel space for a full-size ballroom or Olympic swimming pool (which is basically filled with unrefined fuel anyway...) because you use drop tanks might well make perfect sense and they may...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

i.e. if you can get someone to pay you 86,000 a ton for shipping freight in your J6 ship then a 56% chance of writing off the 25,000 cost of the drop tank that makes it possible to do that jump with that cargo might just make sense. The market for goods and passengers who are so time-sensitive that ...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

As fail in this sense is a 56% chance of something costing 25,000 a ton not being recoverable at all it could make military but never commercial sense. The only exception might be at the Jump-6 level where freight and passenger rates are so high that building a ship that has a J6 drive but all its f...
