So this Combat Arm from the Central Supply Catalogue I just got as a benefit...

Rolled up an army Lt-Col with 3 combat implant benefits and sorely tempted to apply the rule that you can use second and third implant benefits to upgrade the implant another two levels even if it takes it over the TL and Cr limit. Moreover she actually left the army after an injury mishap which mak...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

Jump nets are only for cargo that can handle some knocks, like hull plating and the like from salvage. There is also an actual external mount which is like a double wrap container. ( Outer shell with mount to hull and the standardized containers within it.) CT Supp 9 has the Jump Ship which is inde...

Re: What should I tell her?

To me that is boardgame territory and I'd break out Fifth Frontier War or Imperium and use those rules.

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

As external cargo has been mentioned I have something of an issue with this. Jump nets are nets and anything you carry in them is not going to be exposed to not just vacuum but radiation, micro-mtteteorites etc. Thus I can't see anyone just putting 200t of standard trade goods or freight in containe...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

Re bigger issue of this breaking a basic assumption we all had about Traveller ship design an obvious solution is that The Imperial Ministry of Commerce long ago decreed that dual use fuel/cargo space is never certified for commercial use and so no starship with this feature can carry paying any pas...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

Which I believe is a new rule only found in High Guard 2 and which I suspect was put in precisely to address the so why aren't all TL12 scout/couriers J-3? question. The ships in Core are built with the HG system, which is why it has a 10 Dt jump drive in the first place. I don't have the books to ...

Re: Missing maintenance = misjump rule.

If you do it within an atmosphere, you're displacing a lot more atoms than in space; and if we assume the process visually is a lot like Star Wars hyperjumping, not a lot of time for those atoms to get pushed aside. So jumping out from within an atmosphere a whole lot of atoms suddenly disappear co...

Re: Snake Eyes and Box Cars

I house rule that a natural 2 is always a failure and a natural 12 always a success.

Of course this only applies if there is a chance - however remote - of success or failure.

Re: Missing maintenance = misjump rule.

"Or does a jump drive that sits unused even need maintenance? (which may solve my High and Dry problem)." Maintenance is for dealing for wear and tear usually from active use. Over long stretches of time, not just weeks or maybe even months, parts can age. Your sometimes mandatory Abandoned Prize S...

Re: Missing maintenance = misjump rule.

Was also thinking of Battlestar Galactica jumping into and out of atmosphere in New Caprica - IIRC it arrives in flames with a big bang.

Somehow I don't think anything the size of a scoutship would survive that.

Re: Missing maintenance = misjump rule.

Also on misjumps there is a -4 DM to the Engineer roll for being within 100 diameters of the planet. So what about being within 10D of the planet or trying to jump from within its atmosphere? In both cases a misjump should be pretty much certain - but you can imagine situations where even a 50% chan...

Missing maintenance = misjump rule.

Running High and Dry solo (which it is actually well fitted for) it occurred to me that when you leave Walston you have to make the standard engineering test to jump somewhere - which is easy (4+) but has a -1 DM per month when routine maintenance has been missed. While the scenario is not very spec...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

This is because it already has to have a ten ton minimum jump drive which is 10% of 100t and at TL12 gives you jump-3. Sadly, no. A jump drive is base 5 Dt + a percentage, so the Scout drive is 5 Dt + 2×2.5% of 100 Dt = 5 Dt + 5 Dt = 10 Dt for a J-2 drive. Which I believe is a new rule only found i...

Re: Training stats

I'd suggest the training period is based on the stat you are raising to but is x 50s of hours and requires all appropriate space and equipment. I'd also suggest that to be effective you must do at least 1% of the total training period per week. So raising STR from 7 to 8 requires 8 x 50 = 400 hours ...

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

Another example - your scout/courier now becomes both a viable mini-far trader and jump-3 capable. This is because it already has to have a ten ton minimum jump drive which is 10% of 100t and at TL12 gives you jump-3. So make all the fuel space and 10 tons of the cargo convertible between fuel and c...
