Re: Rules Question: Laser Rifle vs G/Bike

Maybe phavoc can shed more light on this since he was in the military but I've always heard that hitting a moving target is what separates the pros from the posers when it comes to sniping. We're probably talking about Vietnam-era weaponry, though. High tech weapons, such as a TL9+ laser rifle — tec...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Enjoyed your latest writeup, Kulthea. Question for you: Have you been using the capital ships or Pirates of Drinax fleet rules from "Finale" to conduct large-scale battles?

A collector doesn't use hydrogen.

Antimatter slugs do not use hydrogen.
Ah, I see now. I'm afraid I'm ignorant of collector technology. I guess that would be a workaround of the hydrogen limitation then, wouldn't it. Clever idea.

Re: High Efficiency Batteries for Jump

I think the mechanics dictate that the hydrogen for the jump is required regardless. A battery alone cannot do the job.

Re: JTAS 5 - Page 124 - The great escape

So it appears. I'm sure they'll fix it for the final. The wording of the sentence, "For the sake of simplicity, the referee may simply determine the distance to the jump point and then double the escaping ship’s speed toward that point each round" is also faulty. It should say something to the effec...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

We're a long way away from "Blood of the Star Dragon," but I want to start laying the seeds now. Our group has become intimately familiar with Oleb, but Harrick and Rao are still mysterious to them. They know that Harrick has an interest in Asim, which coincides with one of the players' altruistic p...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

I agree that the patrol ships are poorly equipped and poorly designed for combat (especially in Mongoose rules). That was one of the whole points this was based around. Being "able to fight a Gazelle" doesn't make something particularly good at combat. Which begs the question: Does the Imperium eve...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Mine are reluctant to pirate as well, though they have committed atrocities in the various heists they've pulled off, so I'm not sure where they draw the moral line. Other than the Treasure ship, they've only taken two piracy scores in the 1.5 years of game time that they have been in the employ of ...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

It also depends what’s in the Harrier’s second turret. A triple laser turret can be a fine anti-missile weapon.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Very few adventure-class ships are equipped with radiation shielding...although given the proliferation of PA weapons in “Pirates,” perhaps they should be.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

It's your call whether or not the engineering for such a system is feasible. Stellar radiation can for example be mapped as ships can FTL to bring warning of it and the military may have a database of that. "Radar" signals that look like legitimate civilian signals will be a harder problem to solve...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

I've also picked up the Harrier supplement as an eBook and, apart from concluding that I will need to get High Guard as well to properly understand some of the features of the ship, looking at the description of the ship systems combined with writing up my first session report on the blog prompted ...

Re: Megafreighters

I think you have to consider the value of Villane as a facilitator for a go-between in hex 2728 or 2828. Villane has three gas giants, none of which could possibly get much traffic being where they are. Set up a refueling station in 2728 or 2828 and start hauling unrefined fuel to the station. Make ...

Re: Ship inspection time for the Broadsword, or why you're late to the party.

What I dislike is the written adventures that instruct the GM to have several routine ship encounters or inspections ahead of the one with the action, so the players have to stay alert or risk getting lulled into disaster. I understand the logic: if you don't do this, the players will know somethin...

Re: Ship inspection time for the Broadsword, or why you're late to the party.

A big part of mercenary operations is the use of a repatriation bond, which is supposed to be used to grant the mercs safe passage back home after a failed ticket. Perhaps there is similar legal documentation that grants the mercenary cruiser the right to carry weaponry provided that it is stowed an...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

We're seven sessions deep into "Prodigal Outcast" and it has been a blast. The Harrier crew had to find Hwehalokharl who was with his cousin's ihatei group on Borite. After executing a fairly ingenious kidnapping scheme, they low berthed the lad on the Treasure Ship, which—in our campaign—is perched...

Re: Are we playing two different games?

There are a few considerations when calling for a task check: Is there a chance the character could fail? If a failure occurs, what does it mean? If a pilot fails to skim hydrogen from a gas giant, does the ship fall into the gas giant—or maybe just do a little damage to the scoops? Failure might on...

Oh well, I tried. But wait, WHO old Yuleihehar is, exactly?
I would assume that he predates the Cultural Purges, perhaps serving as a signatory to the Grand Conclave.
