Re: How would the people that remembered cope?

Imagine modern-day earth on The Scale of 3 Adjacent Stars Systems that the can be reached without Jump but would take a year or so, now imagine World War 2 on that same scale. What would happen if someone went back in time and killed Hitler, but when he or she returned to the modern time he discove...

Re: Has the Traveller timeline ever advanced?

We have been talking about this a lot behind the scenes - going beyond the FFW and up to when the Empress Wave hits important things. The one problem we have is that Traveller does not only cover a huge amount of time but also space - we could spend the rest of our lives detailing Charted Space in ...

Has the Traveller timeline ever advanced?

I noticed that after the New Era and shortly thereafter the timeline has retreated to 1104 or thereabouts and stayed there. Why do you suppose that is? Why does the Forgotten Realms timeline advance but the Traveller timeline stays frozen in place, and has been that way for the last 40 years or so? ...

Re: What would The Emperor do?

What would The Emperor do if their was A Duke who was popular enough among the civilians, the armed forces, the nobility and the religious groups that if he wanted to could lead a rebellion that would won through sheer numbers if nothing else, but would never do so cos he is far too loyal to The Em...

Re: Nobles and adoption

Depends on tradition and custom. You could do it in Rome, though titles were passe; in England you'd need the Royal stamp of approval, if the kids were not in the direct line of succession. Emperors were at first non-hereditary, they chose their successors by adoption, When the Roman Empire went in...

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

I understand it's a question of stress, and the need to create artificial gravity. Optionally, a ring of islands: https://greenprophet.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/the-world-islands-dubai-photo-aerial.jpg I don't know what that is, is it something built by the United Arab Emirates by any chance?

Re: 2300AD - Any News?

On the point of near future commercial space, SpaceX may be grabbing headlines, but there's also Blue Origin, which may end up as the dominant commercial space player because SpaceX blows through too much of its money, leaving it open to a buyout by the more cautious Blue Origin. I like the idea of...

Re: G-force induced loss of consciousness

In theory, Traveller spaceships can accelerate twenty five gees with a manoeuvre drive and a reactionary rocket. Like a cannon. And it's canon. It's never stated what happens to any player characters who happen to be aboard at that time, though one assumes since it's mentioned as a possibility, the...

Re: 2300AD - Any News?

I think by this point you can pretty much remove any reference to a Twilight War in the background to 2300AD. There are plenty of other conflicts we could postulate: break up of EU India vs Pakistan Israel vs Iran China vs Korea China vs Japan China vs India USA civil war 2 The Twilight War in the ...

Re: HELP: Ship Design Walk-through DarkMatter: Raza

I think the Raza can't land, maybe I'm wrong, but over the 5 episodes I have seen, the Raza never landed, instead they send a shuttle to the planet's surface. So I think the Raza is a bit bigger than a Mercenary Cruiser in that regard. I am watching this show on Netflix, so it is 1 season out of dat...

One correction - the upper stage of the BFR is only SSTO from a world with much lower gravity than Earth, that's why the first stage is necessary to get it off Earth. (e.g. Mars). That's not what I heard Elon Musk say about it. He said it was a single stage to orbit vehicle in an interview, he did ...

You boot them out of the game if they don't make payments! Just kidding, but read the sentence, "How do you (Logically) prevent players from skipping payments? Re: Regrowing an arm and other medical advantages

Quite true. I suppose if the rules include the possibility of psionic limb or organ regeneration, technological regeneration should be possible too. However regeneration of an essential organ would not be possible unless the patient were connected to a technological substitute. For example, if your...

Re: Regrowing an arm and other medical advantages

Are there canon prices for such things as limb regrowth? I would rule the regrowth from cloned cells as cheap, but there's still the transplant surgery to place the cloned body parts in the injured body, and surgery is always expensive, per Baumol's cost disease. Surgery is not necessary if limbs c...

Re: Regrowing an arm and other medical advantages

That can mean tissue regrowth for the limb. Why would the limb be missing for only 2 points ability reduction? Cr.10,000 sounds awfully cheap to regrow an entire limb too. What experience do you have for Cr10,000 being cheap? If you assume the Travellers get into a lot of fights, that could be a lo...
