The "Paradigm Shift" occurs when you look at all the timeline events across all of Howard's shared world stories and it suddenly hits you that if you took out the "Hyborian Age" essay, then it all comes together into a fairly coherent timeline. Even the Conan stories fit into the timeline without m...

I don't know of one. Where do you get your Bran and Solomon dates from? They're c. 300 and c. 1600, aren't they? I'm not sure, exactly. I've been looking for this type of information on the web for quite a while and don't often footnote my research. One place I looked was the Timeline of fictional ...

complete REH-inspired timeline

Has anyone put together a timeline of events that connects REH's different characters together? For example; ~18,000 BC - Kull ~10,000 BC - Conan 210 AD - Bran Mak Morn 1529 AD - Red Sonya 1566 AD - Solomon Kane ~1850 - various REH Wild West events ?? - Francis X. Gordon events etc. 1. I know from o...

Unfortunately, the Diablo he is referring to isn't d20, it's 2nd AD&D, complete with THACO, reverse AC, and no ability modifiers. Maybe, maybe not. There are a couple of Diablo materials out there, and one of them is designed to be 3E. The boxed set and a couple of the modules is 2nd Edition, but a...

Atlantean Edition is confusing

While I agree that "Atlantean Edition" is very clever, it is also very confusing because R.E. Howard wrote so many references to Atlantis. (Kull and at least one reference in Solomon Kane.)

When I first heard about the book, I thought it was a Kull supplement. I really want one of those.

I like the book, but....

The nudity didn't really bother me, except my nine year old who just started playing D&D was very interested in looking through the book and perhaps playing a Barbarian (he has seen the TV edited version of the movie) in Conan the RPG. A picture every now and again would have been tolerable, but ev...

Wow! Thanks for the link! :D

If I thought that 3E was rules-heavy, I'm really amazed at how big the changes are from 3E to 3.5. I was under the impression the 3.5 was just a minor overhaul, but that Word doc turns out to be 36 pages in length!

I had no idea so much had changed.

I'm mostly a fan of older versions of D&D but I do own 3E core rulebooks and have thumbed through them somewhat. I'll probably use material in the Conan game in my older rules system, but I have thought about trying 3E again and don't know if I should bother to buy the 3.5 rule books. Could anyone b...

Re: How to start a Conan adventure

Since Conan is not you typical D&D style of adventure, it deserves a different type of set up to get the characters to work together. The following is my concept for starting out my players. Anybody have anything that they would like to share? One of the toughest things about any new campaign world...

Okay, so I forgot about the GenCon target date ... that's clearly the top output season of the year. It's also so far from Christmas that those purchases come out of a different household fund. :D

I still think that every year something neat seems to be lurking in January.

Release date

I hate to be too grumpy, but why is it that so many cool RPG releases seem to occur in January? Don't game companies want to get their stuff on my Christmas list? :? This is not aimed specifically at Conan, but is a trend that I have noticed over the past few years. My wife asks for a list of stuff ...

I would love to see 1) very good maps for Hyboria (I hope that is what the Hyborian Gazetteer will be. 2) high quality figures (could you make a deal with reaper? I'm not a big miniature figure guy, but I second the motion for some good quality maps of Hyboria. Perhaps a set of maps that might deta...

Perhaps had you read any of the original stories with the Frazetta covers you might understand... Not to nit pick too much, but the original Conan stories were in Weird Tales magazine, which did NOT feature Frazetta covers. If you look at the old covers of the magazines (and Conan and femal...

As a Howard fan and purist I for one am elated that you’ve taken the pure Howard stance. With that act alone you’ve gotten my patronage. As far as I’m concerned you can keep it pure Howard. No one else did Conan like Howard. The only writer that even came close was Karl Edward Wagner, a man who owe...
