Re: Parallel Earths

Id have a look more at The Merchant Princes series by Charles Stoss to see how this might play. The Long Earth isn't really like the idea presented here in the way it would play.

Re: Adventures during character creation

I think it is useful to do some role playing for connections if it seems appropriate. I wouldn't class this as running an adventure. It might not even require any dice rolling. Just ask the two players concerned to describe what the connection represents and you can add your own embellishments and ...

Re: Adventures during character creation

Think about what it means to run a term of adventures. Hum, what if the adventure were not the whole term but rather one event from their term? I do agree that this would only work if the characters were alive and out in the world at the same time and at least in closely related careers. :D That's ...

Roll Your Own Campaign Technique

I have been playing Traveller since its first publication. Over the years I developed my own technique for creating campaign settings, rather than the classic Traveller world and sector system. I finally codified it for your edification in this article. https://strangeflight.files.wordpress.com/2016...

Adventures during character creation

I found using the Mongoose 2e character development that each term became something like a mini adventure when dealing with the events and character connections. It occurred to me that character development could be a vehicle for more developed adventures. Has anyone actually had adventures for thei...

Re: Nebulosity and Dust Clouds

Sensors for examining objects over several million kilometres away may be less effective. Planets may have aurora effects, or be heated by infilling dust particles. For a hyperjump leaving or entering nebulosity might be altered, perhaps increasing the 100 radii limit by a few radii? Would there be a...

Nebulosity and Dust Clouds

In Traveller there is no discussion of the impact of Nebulosity and Dust Clouds on star ship sub light movement or navigation or on effects on star systems within such clouds. Are the clouds of economic value? Such clouds are large enough to blanket multiple sectors so its a shame they aren't covere...

Re: Exploration Game Structures

Both Mongoose Scouts and MegaTraveller World Builder's Handbook describe detection of initial system structures from observations in nearby neighboring star systems. This made me realize the value of the 100 ton scout vessels natural J2 ability to explore systems one parsec away detected to have no...

I managed to get a couple of exploration sessions in. Part 3 has been pending for a while due to illness but its still on the cards.

Re: Taxiation in the Traveller Universe

If your playing a full on trading game it may be worthwhile considering taxation, but not for general adventure. A game with higher order politics, such as a faction driven sandbox does need to care about it. A game with smuggling also needs to know about the taxes and customs duties as that is a si...

A Scenario Structure for Smuggling in Traveller

Several blogs have discussions about role playing games mastery. This article is specifically about Traveller. https://strangeflight.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/smuggling-plan.png At the Alexandrian, in a series of articles on game structures Justin Alexander gives a sample scenario structure for hi...

Re: 3d Subsector

I like the work you have put in this. Do you find the jump distances get a bit far apart with the frequency you have chosen? I also have gone 3d with 10x10x10 sub sectors although I use a flat map mechanism for ease of play without a digital device (I picked the idea up from an old space board game ...

Re: New Edition of Traveller is Here!

In the core rules, for the character sheet, it suggests putting the characteristic value in the hexagon and the DM in the space outside. From a pragmatic play point of view the DM is the most used element and I would suggest that should be in the hexagon, and the characteristic value in smaller prin...

Re: New Edition of Traveller is Here!

Just printing out the careers from the print friendly pdf (version 2015 12 19) . Drifter and Marine front pages have a light grey font that is illegible. Checking back on the full colour pdf they also have a different font colour to the rest.

:!: Ignore this, I have 2016 01 24 and its fixed.

Re: Ow, my eyes

We'll look at doing a b/w print-friendly PDF version in the full release - remember that the full colour edition is designed primarily to be viewed as a printed book where some colours might be a little less glaring. The Isometric Deckplan Key on page 165 has a problem with the Iris Valve icons, wh...

Exploration Game Structures

The core rules mention having an exploration flavoured campaign. However that requires some support, similar to the support given for trade flavoured campaigns. Classic Traveller Book 6 : Scouts had pretty much everything needed including detailed system generation and scan/survey rules. Is there a ...
