Re: Confused about releases and ongoing support

I have always loved Paranoia for its setting and never much cared for its mechanics. You don't really need to worry about mechanics, you know. As the GM, just say, "Tell me what you're trying. If it's entertaining, it works in the way that I think would be most entertaining for me. If it's not ente...

Playing without Psionics

I never much liked psionics in Traveller because it drifts the genre into the realm of sci fantasy. As it is though psi is a minor extra so it doesn't matter much if it disappears, although some life events link to it. Does anyone else play without the psi rules at all? Does anyone out there rejig p...

Re: Mongoose News - Referee's Briefing - New Series for Traveller!

Just discovered this series with notification of briefing 5. Thought I would update the list here. Referee's Briefing 2: Anomalies and Wonders Much of the time Travellers move from one starport to the next, seeing the shops and the bars and not much else. In between they stare at the same six bulkhe...

Dan Dare's Dream

This is just me claiming bragging rights. Last year the Mopra Telescope Team here in Oz needed some funding. I chucked in a fair whack of dough for their galactic survey and that allowed me naming rights over one of the molecular clouds they surveyed. So when you are drawing your galactic maps don't...

Re: Would it work?

So where does this super high tech empire hang out? Why doesn't it control everything in the alpha quadrant? The galaxy is only about 30kpc across and ships able to jump a mere 500pc a year (jump 10) will take only 60 years to cross from side to side. That would put administrative control of large c...

Re: Confused about releases and ongoing support

All-new mechanics include a simple yet brilliant character-generation system, a bluffing-based card-driven combat system , a special Computer Dice which means even the simplest interaction can become hilariously fatal, in-game XP Point rewards, and more advice to GMs than you can shake a stick at2....

Re: Misjump

Using misjumps to introduce a new setting can be fun, but if you tie that to the regular missjump mechanics you may find yourself changing whole settings a lot. My thinking more boils down to this: Melissa, pilot: Those two cruisers are blocking the 100 radius boundary. I'm going to jump from here....

Re: Adventures during character creation

@DanDare2050 - Would you please be so kind as to write up your 'faction system' as a potential article for Freelance Traveller (Doing It My Way section)? Hi Free Trav. I have just started a series of articles, Low Prep Traveller Factions , on my own Strange Flight Blog. However I would be happy to ...

Other places for discussing Mongoose Traveller

I found this group on Facebook that I like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/travellersfrpg/
I also use the forums at RPG Geek for this: https://www.rpggeek.com/rpg/499/traveller-mongoose

Where else are there discussions about Mongoose Traveller specifically that you like?

Re: Misjump

Without consequences, players tend to do dumb things. http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/gtawiki/images/4/44/GTAIV-Boxart.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20071128223330 I'm not discussing consequence free anything. I'm trying to make risking a misjump a reasonable player choice in a tight spot. That means ...

Re: Nebulosity and Dust Clouds

I wouldn't believe very loose dust and hydrogen would add mass to a planet. Possibly it could be some sort of Weird Science effect that messes with the working of the jump drive and/or the bubble adding to misjump possibility, a bane. The hundered radius sphere about a planet is a million times the...

Re: Nebulosity and Dust Clouds

Perhaps the extra density means that the 100 radius limit is doubled for planets within a dust cloud.

Re: Misjump

Player characters should never die with no warning, absolute rule for me. If they take a risk that could lead to death they will only take that risk if its their last resort. However a) if the worse comes up there should at least be a chance to do something to mitigate b) its better if death only co...

Misjump

From the Jump Travel rules If the Engineer (jump drive) check made to initiate a jump is failed by an Effect of -2, the ship will arrive in the target system but find itself a number of hundred diameters away from the intended world multiplied by 1D. If a worse Effect is rolled, a merciful referee m...

Re: Adventures during character creation

I've added in my faction system to the NPC development experiment . It broadens the scope of what to do with the narrative side of the events. Interestingly its also generated additional NPCs. I have a contact and an enemy but now there is also a new terrorist leader coming out of the events generat...

Re: Co-discover of Metallic Hydrogen wrote paper on metallic hydrogen for rockets

Given that Traveller is hundreds of years in the future the answer is probably that metallic hydrogen is what jump drives have been based on all the time. Fuel scoops process liquid to metallic and the refining process still removes impurities.

Re: 3d Subsector

Greens easy to distinguish on the map (unless your red green colour blind) and ROYGBIV is easy to remember for ordering the spectral classes. I stole that from the board game Stellar Conquest a long, long time ago and just stuck with it ever since. Feel free to put correct spectral tints in on your ...

Re: Adventures during character creation

I have been running an experiment to use character development as a process to flesh out worlds. I am putting the results out at RPG Geek.

For player characters I'm going to experiment with creating event choices where the player can trade off outcomes and maybe take a risk.
