Re: Arguments for & against point-buy chargen

Point-by is a valid character generation strategy IMO. The referee, however, must be aware of the consequences. The skill distribution scheme is a good option in order to pose limits on characters. MgT 1 has a point-by system, where it gets progressively expensive to stack characteristics and skills...

Effect and Blast weapons?

Hello,

In the first edition, it does not (it's specifically written).

In the 2nd edition, seems effect is added to the Blast weapons trait since there is no exemption to the rule.

This can make grenades quite dangerous.

Re: Fighter Squadron Combat

As it might not be clear, I dig up an old rule for squadrons from the beta and tried to see what is the effect of this rule, with the current knowledge. I "cleared" the beta rule, so it states: "All weapons of the same type make a single attack roll, gaining +1 DM to the attack roll for every fighte...

I see,

Then back to criticals from salvos and spinals for the giant ships (as the poor Large bay can't reach the damage).

Re: Fighter Squadron Combat

While the rule from the beta is now obsolete, I have made some calculations on paper. (I assume the bonus is per weapon type and weapon #, and not per fighter #) The squadron beta-rule would make them quite deadly, more so than individual fighters. I was wondering if it was viable, but it can quickl...

Re: Critical Hits on Large Ships

Bringing this back from the archives,

The posts on this topic leave me with the impression we can combine attacks in order to achieve a critical hit? Or do I misread somewhere?

Missiles auto-loader?

While I see how non-military vessels will have people loading the missile racks in the feeder, I assume there is technology which doesn't require personnel.

Do we have such systems in the previous editions/versions of Traveller? If so, how does it operate?

Re: Super high speed combat

Sometimes we play using a vector system and calculating the accelerations.

It involves a player, with an excel sheet, who is a dedicated processor.

It does change the flavour of the battle, as ships tend to "fly past each other" due to the accumulated acceleration.

Re: What to do when Corebook and CSC contradict each other.

Thinking about it, the CSC grants +1 DM when using that skill. It doesn't grant +1 skill.

So, in effect, if the traveller has no skill, he will still suffer -3 to the check, but will have +1 DM.

But it's just easier to assume he needs at least 0 skill level to benefit.

Nice!

But it seems highly unlikely that the reaction drives will use the same hydrogen fuel. Or is it?

Well, you can always rule that the Benefits rolls only cover the implants from the core book (i.e. no combat arm).

Re: Looking for good sample of space Combat

Yes, some of us have experience rolling in space combat, although none, I assume, have recorded a video. @AnotherDilber is especially experienced in the quirks of space combat and has posted a lot of simulations on this forum. My experience, as a player, is with 100 dton ship, 400 dTon and 500 dTon....

Indeed it doesn't mention it can stack. That is a significant drawback indeed, only beneficial if the traveller is without any good armour.

In this case, the price might be ok, and any the additional drawbacks I made can be toned down.

Re: So this Combat Arm from the Central Supply Catalogue I just got as a benefit...

Keep in mind rolling the same combat implant upgrade is not that probable. From tens of heroes created in our sessions, only a few (under 5) have managed to stack luckish rolls and gain skill 4 or significant upgrades. As for the arm, I also see it as pretty strong augmentation. Since there are no i...

Re: Passage and Freight Costs table

There might be other factors involved, obscure to the end result. Maybe the TLs of the drives are different, resulting in higher supply, construction, operation and maintenance cost, going in non-lienar progression. Maybe the 6-Jump drive is significantly difficult to obtain (accounting not only the...

Re: Naval architects needed to defeat enemy fighters!

Here is a moment of strategy, that can be argued. The fighters have Thrust 9 + 16 = 25. The ship moves away from the fighters to gain time. It has Thrust 9. The difference is 16. The fighters can reserve 3 for dodging and will have 13 remaining. With 13 remaining they can cover the Very long range i...

Re: Snake Eyes and Box Cars

With our current campaign, we rolled characters with a specific point-buy system. The result is in some extremes in both skills and stats. We have a character who can fire energy weapons with a net bonus of +6, not considering equipment. Of course, the referee, expecting such extremes, doesn't hold ...

It seems we suck at physics :D

I, at least, got confused since on the details table the EM has a separate column.

But after some reading, I see what "EM" is and how it works.

Re: Animal Stun trait

Keep in mind in Traveller very different weapon types can have the STUN trait.

Electrical shocks do, of course,

But so do stun grenades, rubber shells and some weapons (the famous sap).

I assume such armour would protect only against the electrical shocks.
