Re: Passage and Freight Costs table

I still can't decipher some entries in the table:

The low jump between J4 and J5 for the most entries;
The more expensive low berth passage than the basic passage for J5 and J6.

Re: Fuel/Cargo Containers from Deep Space Exploration book

About the prices calculations - we can use that guy's table, but the new forum screwed up the formatting. It might be tough to decipher it. edit: managed to get part of the costs. It seems balanced for small ships. A 1000 ton freighter (optimized for J6), seems to generate ~8 Mil/run with a monthly ...

Re: Arguments for & against point-buy chargen

When a skill is rarely used, due to similar reasons as the posts above, I tend to give a significant advantage when using those, where it makes sense. By an advantage, I mean giving valuable information or/and bonus DM for specific skill checks which may follow, related to that information. edit: in...

Re: Looking for good sample of space Combat

This flow is for personal combat for the 1st edition. It's quite detailed though.

I will make a draft (means ugly) and post it here for quick evaluation. It won't be that much detailed though, but you will have an idea of the general flow.

Keep in mind the flow is different from the first edition.

Re: Dichotomy of maintenance

It's a conspiracy by the big-maintenance-service companies. But thanks to a few webcam some-tube videos, pilots all over the known universe start to realize and can save tons of money from maintenance that goes into the banks of the big-M coprs. Pilots just have to get a simple solution their ancest...

You are right,

I guess I am affected by the innovation/startup mentality. The first x custom designs, yes.

Standard military designs - not at all.

Re: 100 ton ship with Jump-1, Thrust-1...and a 51-ton ion cannon bay

I was pondering on the idea to design a few suboptimal ships with a story of their genesis. In the forum (and sometimes in game) we tend to design the 95%+ top - the best of the best; but I assume in a reality, designing and building a ship meets significant hurdles along the way, resulting in a lot...

Re: Effect and Blast weapons?

That is a pretty good call. I would also assume that this is a perspective from which people look at different rules (and perhaps arguments arise).

Re: Effect and Blast weapons?

Also if a character dives/dodges that reduces the DM by his dex/athletics score. Would that also reduce damage by reducing the effect? Blast weapons don't allow dodges. But yes - if effect increases the damage, then everything reducing the effect would reduce the damage. Keep in mind even the simpl...

Re: Can a streamlined ship go underwater ?

A ship is completely sealed, so I see no reason not to.
Perhaps the pressure will cause some effects and the movement would be slower.

Re: Effect and Blast weapons?

While it @MonkeyX makes sense, the effect will be applied to the whole Blast range, and then it raises the question - can the grenade land in each's guy pocket, in the blast range? Of course, we can rule that it lands at an exceptionally good angle which maximizes the fragmentation (and close to the...

Re: Naval architects needed to defeat enemy fighters!

A quick question partially related to the topic.

You don't use a simple formula here, you use a simulation of each attack, and then extract the average, correct?

It's a good rule - simple.

As I recall, ship's stats have specific ton size for the ammo.

Re: Arguments for & against point-buy chargen

Point-by is a valid character generation strategy IMO. The referee, however, must be aware of the consequences. The skill distribution scheme is a good option in order to pose limits on characters. MgT 1 has a point-by system, where it gets progressively expensive to stack characteristics and skills...

Effect and Blast weapons?

Hello,

In the first edition, it does not (it's specifically written).

In the 2nd edition, seems effect is added to the Blast weapons trait since there is no exemption to the rule.

This can make grenades quite dangerous.

Re: Fighter Squadron Combat

As it might not be clear, I dig up an old rule for squadrons from the beta and tried to see what is the effect of this rule, with the current knowledge. I "cleared" the beta rule, so it states: "All weapons of the same type make a single attack roll, gaining +1 DM to the attack roll for every fighte...

I see,

Then back to criticals from salvos and spinals for the giant ships (as the poor Large bay can't reach the damage).

Re: Fighter Squadron Combat

While the rule from the beta is now obsolete, I have made some calculations on paper. (I assume the bonus is per weapon type and weapon #, and not per fighter #) The squadron beta-rule would make them quite deadly, more so than individual fighters. I was wondering if it was viable, but it can quickl...

Bringing this back from the archives,

The posts on this topic leave me with the impression we can combine attacks in order to achieve a critical hit? Or do I misread somewhere?

Missiles auto-loader?

While I see how non-military vessels will have people loading the missile racks in the feeder, I assume there is technology which doesn't require personnel.

Do we have such systems in the previous editions/versions of Traveller? If so, how does it operate?
