Re: Common Areas.
This is an area I want to keep deliberately fuzzy, as we don't want to track every little hatch and nook, and if a ref wants to add an alcove or chamber to a specific area of a ship, he should be able to just go ahead and do so, without doing any maths or recalculations. However, this is a reasonab...

Re: A Quick Word About Radioactivity
It is a rulebook's job to explain hazards characters are likely to run into. Radiation being one of them. If nuclear missiles weren't a Traveller thing, you might have a point, but they are, so you don't. So what exactly do you want put in the rulebook? do you have an outline idea of what should be...

Re: A Quick Word About Radioactivity
Did you even read what I wrote? I posted this thread in the context of some relic from a long-forgotten war. In that context, a GM might naively assume that the radiation has faded away; and the sad fact of the matter is, this naive assumption is wrong . It is exactly the job of rulebooks to correc...

High Technology - Hyper Drive/ Warp Drive.
Just a couple of points I'd like to have clarified about the Hyper drive and Warp Drive. The Hyper Drive's description notes that it uses the ship's manoeuvre drive to determine how fast the ship can move when in hyperspace. It also has it's own set of drive ratings. So, what are these ratings in re...

Re: Common Areas.
My point that even with it being a suggestion it's too generous based on the common working ship. dropping it to a quarter of the stateroom tonnage would bring it more in line with what is already there and then the variance that we see makes more sense for the merc cruiser giving them more living s...

Common Areas.
Common Areas and Living Space It is common practice to assign an additional amount of tonnage, equal to half that used for staterooms, as common areas or general living space. These will typically be recreation area such as a mess, canteen, or lounge. This is not strictly necessary and ships can an...

Re: Missile Prices
I noticed that basic missiles in the current HG2 draft cost Cr250,000 each - 10 times the cost in CT (or in MGT1?). Is there a reason for this? This will make missiles far rarer in use, especially civilian use. Cr25,000 seems more reasonable. The older missiles were fairly ineffective against large...

Re: Fighters And Starships In Dogfight
William T. Riker shows up on Deep Space Nine and proceeds to charm the crew, especially Major Kira. She takes him on a tour of the station and its new ship, the Defiant. Once aboard, he pulls a phaser on her, stuns her, fakes a warp-core breach and steals the ship. Oh the days when transporter dupl...

Re: Old ships and their quirks
Letting your players fix that kind of problem is fine. The real thing about it thogh, is since it's a quirk of the ship it's something that you can have crop up from time to time as is naratively significant, as a random roll might dictate or just for fun. It's something that doesn't need to go away...

Re: Plasma, Particle and Fusion weapons on Small Craft?
The High technology chapter weapons are listed as turrets. They 'could' be placed on small craft as fixed mount weapons but their power usage would make them difficult to use effectively.

Re: New Harrier Design Needed?
I've always looked at the table as your guideline for how things move forward With TL advancement. The things I've been wondering about is the Engines. It's noted that they are significantly more advanced than current Imperium standards but thanks to the new sizing of parts... a J2 drive is already ...

Re: New Harrier Design Needed?
Bump the beam up to TL-15 from 12, get the 3 advantages and you get both accurate and high-yield. The Drinaxi Harrier-class commerce raider (her original name was V’Hurg, but the player characters can change this) was constructed at a TL15. Her internal systems are extremely advanced, although battl...

Re: New Harrier Design Needed?
The particle beam turret mount is still there. It's just tucked away in the high technology section. Our harriers will continue to be the scourge of the spaceways for a long time.

Re: Post Career Education/Training - End of October draft
And a massive shortening of the study period. Massive. I'd say 6 week period to be honest, now that library isn't doubling the time anymore... we need to realise that means taking a non-existant skill to a 2, is still 6+6+(6+6) 24 weeks! A 6 month, 8 hours a day, dedicated to one subject.. which ca...

Re: Post Career Education/Training - End of October draft
My table doesn't seem to mind wasted effort if it's all within the game fiction and makes sense. They would feel like they shouldn't bother if they had to spend actual game resources and then failed the learning check. They would understand that they "just haven't figured it out yet", though they m...

Re: Thoughts, questions and comments
One suggestion I do have concerns the design order. Weapons are installed after power plants, meaning I might be almost done with my new ship class, only to discover that the weapon package I want requires more power. This means I gotta go from step 8 back down to step 3 to adjust power level so th...

Re: Conscious Intelligence
Been mulling this one over - I think I will move it over to High Guard, where it will use the serious processing power of spacecraft computers... I don't think a spacecraft level computer is absolutely necessary unless you're going to lower the TL, or outright make it a shipboard interface system. ...

Re: Post Career Education/Training - End of October draft
Hi guys, Okay, this is obviously something that needs looking at :) I will start with the caveat that the Companion will have a chapter on training/character progression and that this will be the place we can add all sorts of exceptions, different methods and all the rest. For the Core Book, howeve...

Advanced Drives, Size and TL
I'm looking for some rules clarification on this. First off, when dealing with improving drives by increasing their TL, are they still limited to the size restrictions? For example. A 200 Ton Craft with a Jump 2 Drive. As standard that's TL 11 at 10 Tons. If I instead had a Jump 2 Drive at TL-13 Wou...
