Re: Ship Construction idea: Piggyback external Mounts

I was thinking along the same lines Condottiere, converting what the military use into an economic system. Hence my Jump Station TAS product (blatant plug!) that uses Drop tank technology to move more cargo along a defined route. Using clamps allows cargo to be moved as needed, but allows fuel to be...

Re: Ship Construction idea: Piggyback external Mounts

For a developed system with a highport I can see that. At some point I am guessing a streamlined orbit to ground delivery ship. The volume only not weight of grav control makes it all about the cubage. For both shipping point to point in-system and through Jumpspace. Freight is all about moving as m...

Ship Construction idea: Piggyback external Mounts

I am looking for input on an idea to increase cargo capacity. If you had a Type 2 Docking Clamp (pg 43 Highguard) the clamp would cost 1 Million Credits and take up 5 tons. This would allow you to clamp ships from 31- 99 tons. This got me to thinking of 2 different applications for the Docking Clamp...

Re: What should my friend do?

Does anyone in your group play anything other than a Dilettante? Aside from your 'I had a dream about a convoluted Traveller concept' posts a lot of your posts deal in the issues arising when players have massive portfolios. If a player is earning 600,000 a month why are they traipsing around the ga...

Re: Passenger Ship logistics

Depends on what you view as food. An algae fence with strong lighting could provide oxygen and supply biomass for consumption. http://www.variconaqua.com/products-services/biofencee/ Or you go the hand wavium tech of food reactors and say X amount of food is available per day. Traveller has an Imper...

Re: Spacecraft Operations - Running Costs

Re Travel Times: agree completely. Assume 1 day in, during which time the Broker on board sends the paperwork ahead electronically to the shipping department. Arrangements for berthing and unloading the ship. Then the advertisements for taking on passengers and cargo. Negotiations for incoming cargo...

Re: Spacecraft Operations - Running Costs

Given the Benefit during character creation of a ship with 25% of the mortgage paid off, and ship shares taking a million off that total left per share the weight of a mortgage hanging over the players heads is a running thread in the traveller concept. It can be the reason the players take the dodg...

Re: Spacecraft Operations - Running Costs

Well if you do not make enough to cover your mortgage you will have the skip tracer agents on you. If you cannot cover your life support costs you will have a problem pretty quick. That was my point of the need for profit. Once a ship is paid for they are very profitable. 200 k a month since there i...

Re: Spacecraft Operations - Running Costs

Here are my rough notes on ship economics Assumptions: Jump 2 Far Trader. 2 trips per month 6 low berths 64 tons cargo space Costs Mortgage 52. 240, 500 Ship / 240 = 217 668.75 Credits per month Maintenance: 4353 per month Fuel: 8100 Credits: Unrefined fuel Life Support: 20 600 Salaries: 20 000 Bert...

Re: New Adventure Start: Flatlined

Played another session this evening, and ocne again the players came up with a good solution to the adventure... doing nothing. No disrespect to them at all, not doing anything, hunkering down in one of the garages with all the power off and the door barricaded is a winning strategy. As night fell t...

Re: New Adventure Start: Flatlined

I always tell my players I cannot roleplay high intelligence. They counter with I can't roleplay high charisma either. It balances out. :P

Re: New Adventure Start: Flatlined

Started the adventure this evening. The players were suitably upset about being in cryoberth. Doubly so for one member of the group, his character had suffered a low berth mishap in the creation process, so this is a second time a low berth has caused an issue. He will be paranoid of every low berth...

Re: New Adventure Start: Flatlined

This is a lot of debate for a +1 or +2 bonus. So he will be able to act as if he is proficient in a skill even if he just has the skill (level 0). He is just going to come across as a broadly skiled, proficient person. Now the issue is whether or not a +1 or +2 bonus in every skill will break the ga...

Matt! Thanks for chiming in. To expand the one paragraph written on radiation damage, do you want to give an answer as to whether or not the firer takes radiation damage?

Re: New Adventure Start: Flatlined

That is what I discovered in my Pirates of Drinax campaign. One player went wafer jack and spent thousands on a library of skills. They added a bost to his own skills. Overall it did not make that much of an impact on the game. If I want to raise a challenge it is about storyline and drama, not the ...

Re: New Adventure Start: Flatlined

I am spinning it into a kidnapping/removal of the folks that uncovered the plot from their shared event. They want the players gone. Somebody in the cabal mesedup and got too cute and figured they could sell the group of highly skilled people to the Skill jacking ring and make some extra cash while ...

Re: Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette

So the target takes damage even if the attack misses? That makes the weapon even scarier. The crew is dead and the hull is intact, you do not even need to spend money on Spare Parts to repair the damage your attack caused.

Re: Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette

Let's see if I can do a numerical picture of my thoughts on this, because I lack any skill at pictures and still cannot figure out how to post a pic or pdf of my ship designs. Firer is Number 1. Target is Number 5. The beam is the center line and the width/area on either side of the beam is the affe...

Re: Ship Combat: The Particle Barbette

Simultaneous post with AnotherDilbert. Nice graphic. I would argue that the grey threatened area should be to the right of the firer, with the firer not threatened, for the follwoing reasons. Radiation: When a Radiation weapon is fired, anyone close to the firer, target and the line of fire in-betwe...
