Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

Coming back to the default technological level four six slug shotgun, I wonder it's specifications and performance at a high technologically modified seven. you can do some interesting things with shotgun ammo. even simple buckshot can be altered by changing shape, density, and metallic composition...

sort of leads to the weapon being for a bit complex. sometimes simplicity s the best answer.

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

The barrel could be made out of bonded superdense carbon fibre. Carbon nanotube fiber, lined with synthetic Sapphire...wall thickness around 1mm. considering we can manufacture printed polymer firearms on a home 3d printer by the time you can manufacture bonded superdense alloys you would have to d...

Re: Vehicle Handbook Preview

Or to be honest, even the core rulebook. I remember the first time I did (1st edition) character creation and was running through the skill options with one of the players. When you see that manic gleam in a player's eye and they lean forwards to ask "tell me more of this 'man portable artillery' o...

Re: illustrtion: Air raft reworked

There's a door, but when the puddle jumper gets stuck in the gate and the front of the cockpit has gone through, they specifically ask about closing off the door, and are told it'd be as much use as "a screen door on a submarine" - the door is there, but it's not an airtight hatch like the rear doo...

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

The shotgun doesn't seem to have been developed much beyond it's explosive propulsion. The gauss rifle accelerates a four millimetre slug at one and a half kilometres per second; while shotgun calibres out (presumably) at a default eighteen and a half millimetres, but at around five hundred metres ...

Re: illustrtion: Air raft reworked

I do believe there were some provisions for sealign off the cockpit in the Puddle Jumpers, can't remember the episode...its a very vague memory. There's a door, but when the puddle jumper gets stuck in the gate and the front of the cockpit has gone through, they specifically ask about closing off t...

Re: illustrtion: Air raft reworked

Plus occasionally time travel and has a direct neural control system. Pretty damn skippy. Well, to be fair, the "puddle jumper" is one of the few really sensibly designed ships for the universe it's in. It makes the maximum use of its constraining dimensions (the 'surface area' of a stargate), can ...

Re: illustrtion: Air raft reworked

Okay, worked this up, its a snubnosed fully enclosed version with a bit more space efficient footprint. It's basically the mini/delivery van version. All access is through the rear hatch in this version with no side doors.Secondary hatches are installed in the roof which could be used to mount a pi...

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

I'm sort of kitting out the default Traveller civilian shotgun. I presume super rubber stock absorber pad could be added. On the military side, they've now managed to convert the underbarrel shotgun add-on for the assault rifle into one that can be used, normally, by adding on a stock. Something in...

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

Some nifty accessories would be fore and aft pistol grips. For stocks, it could be wire, adjustable, hollow, cheekpads, foldable and/or hydraulic. Always go with a stock on a shotgun. Pistol grips can be painful when firing a 12 gauge. they look cool but I promise you, you will not enjoy shooting o...

Re: Batteries and Jump Drive

If Travellers are trying to save money with batteries and cold sleep, would they be buying androids? the androids are also a means of ensuring that at least one crew member on the ship is "reliable". If a set of orders is received it will carry them out without those nasty morals, and self-preserva...

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

Fifty yards is sort of an expected range, but shotguns can be used beyond that. General purpose weapons platform, with the ammunition defining the role. Ive seen guys take down deer at over 100 yards withthe proper setup. So yeah you can use them out to longerranges. I generally go with a three gun...

Re: Batteries and Jump Drive

Remember the first and second Alien movies were I think 50 years apart and times changed. Ships could have become faster not needing cold sleep. Are batteries that much better than just reducing power with what you already paid for and redistributing the remaining power to lownberth? Now the crewme...

Re: Vehicle Handbook Preview

The next Traveller rulebook is due very soon now - the Vehicle Handbook does for vehicles what High Guard did for ships, allowing you to build just about any design you can think of, modify existing vehicles, and comes complete with a veritable catalogue of vehicles ready to pop up in your campaign...
