Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Spaceships: Torpedo- And Dive-Bomber Concept While torpedo-bombers seem a rather quaint term for the torpedo boat, it suits the Solomani view of a more dynamic focus on smallcraft carriers playing a more decisive factor in naval battles. The Solomani also introduce a new smallcraft subvariant they ...

Re: Revised Far Trader

It's probably not a top of the line model...but for a workhorse vessel it would do the job. the Turrets make mail packet contract a possible income source. I'd probably use it as a starter vessel for a new crew. cheap, with room for improvement. Of course could also see it as a ship a medium sized ...

Re: Revised Far Trader

what rule sets are you using to build these. I was just wanting to make sure I was on the same page with you. MGT CRB & HG Bilstein Yards, Glisten Ah, okay that makes it easier to figure out how you got the costs you have listed.... It's probably not a top of the line model...but for a workhorse ve...

Re: Cheaper, upgraded Scout Courier

Nice ship, heavily armored for it's weight, and enough cargo to make it useful for carrying small high priority cargoes. I'd only suggest a triple turret instead. Id love to see if you could work up a few variants for it.... Light excort fast scout ( longer range, Higher Thrust) etc... About the on...

Re: Thousand Ton Traders

oky found the rough I did of a 1000 ton trader...Its not accurate on a few things....but it's a fairly good version of a trader....remember it's just a rough from my old notes. from my notes it looks like a 1000 ton ship with soe pretty heavy guns and extra spaces for security would still have 450+ ...

Re: Davy Crockett - King of the wild frontier?

I believe the Davy Crockett was a contact nuke, which is the 2nd dirtiest version of a nuke. the warhead was a dual setting type, If I read the article right...It could be set for High, or low detonation. The Davy Crocket was a desperation weapon at best. Tactically it's only real use would be to b...

Re: Thousand Ton Traders

Now we go to sexy with streamlining. As said earlier, a trader of any size that spend that extra cred for this configuration is a different beast. It is purpose built to go where no other freighter is designed to go. A freighter with streamlining can go no place that a freighter with a standard hul...

Re: Thousand Ton Traders

"It didn't help the game be more playable. It made it more nonsensical. That would be like a rule that charged a ship for buying cargo at every starport whether players wanted it or not. Talk about making weak excuses for lame rules." Gee, it sounds like someone should be creating the ultimate Trav...

Re: Thousand Ton Traders

Yes, that is a fundamental flaw in the rules that has been perpetuated in every version. We have the technology today to put systems in standby/hibernation and reduce to near zero the use of resources. A flaw in the name of broad playability. Not everyone wants to define a ship down to the bulkhead...

Re: Thousand Ton Traders

Does it have good SVG deck plans that are accurate? You will have to ask the poor soul who is turning my notes, and roughs, into illustrations. I only supplied the written material and concept drawings.... which I am afraid to say aren't up to publishing as you can see...this is a 1000 ton Jump Fer...

Re: Thousand Ton Traders

Hey I have great news...You will soon have that 1000-2000 Dton freighter to play with :D There are several In the 1k-2k Dton range ships in the Commercial Vessel book that will hopefully be available to everyone soon :). It's finished on my end and is in the capable hands of the guys over at Mongoose.

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Spaceships: Modular Hull 1. Modules should have the option for armour, since you might want to match it with the rest of the hull. 2. Armour for the primary hull should be pro rata, since you only need to protect those areas. Unless the idea is to put an armoured layer between the main hull and the...

WBNC Either you can't see the forest for the trees or I've been unclear. I get your point. ou have been very clear. But I have been trying to explain why things can be stripped down to just the very very basic facts and figures...Not only that but most deck plans are forced to be very basic..since ...

Re: Warship Design Rant

The problem is they won't be top notch if the current landlubbers do the design work. Ummm I've spent more than a little time on smaller ships and work boats...not exactly unfamiliar with living and working on small ships. And I am one of the guys doing work for mongoose :D Look I can understand wan...

Re: Giant suit of Battledress: 6 meters tall!

if your building a humanoid walker like a tank, you have already messed up. Modern vehicles use steel, heavy alloys, and such things as depleted uranium in the armor. Mainly becuase the materials are plentiful, and easy to manufacture given the current technology...a jump of one or two tech levels a...

Re: Giant suit of Battledress: 6 meters tall!

Several walker type vehicles do exist in Various Traveller sources...In Traveller 2300 I remember their were several countries who deployed combat walkers...however as a general rule Big robots and humanoid vehicles were never a big thing in a Traveller game I can remember. Then again the game preda...
