Messantia is a good product. It's not such a good buy though, since the map is unispiring, the floorplans dull (and for me, superflous) and the adventure rather generic. Mainly, the box is full of air, which I think is bad form and really rather like fooling your buyers. So basically it's a lot of ...

I reccommend Messantia....but I'm a little biased! I like the Shadizar set, it has some novel ideas in implementation and is more tradionally "Hyborian" imo. Messantia is an excellent place from which to stage a variety of adventures, though, especially a sea-faring or pirate campaign.

Hmmm! Given that I authored books 2 and 3 of Messantia, I have a couple comments: 1. On prcs...I am not a big fan of them either. I dislike the D20 system focus on Prcs and feel that what inevitably happens is many cool character concepts get buried and lost in the play mechanics of actually trying ...

Hmmm...turned 35 this February. I discovered Conan through the 12 book De Camp/Carter/Howard combo release about a month before discovering D&D in the Erol Otus set.....and secured my life long hobby. My god, I might have had to figure out football or something like it otherwise!

I'd say Scrolls of Skelos is pretty key, it has a lot of useful material. I would also highly reccommend Tales of The Black Kingdoms, but must disclose that I am somewhat biased

Seriously, though, I'd also suggest the Road of Kings book...invaluable for a party that travels a lot.

The natural solution to the Cthulhu in Hyboria issue, of course, is to import the sanity rules along with the beasties.... I'd suggest a feat that certain characters (usually brawny Cimerrians) have access to, Unfazeable (to borrow from GURPS). Not that A gaggle of Deep Ones lurking in the swampy sh...

Nick, Question about p.4, second column, 3rd paragraph. It states that the regent of Zabhela is Naferakphon but then adds that Theramidos worships Set. I am a bit confused here. Are Naferakphon and Theramidos supposed to be the same person? If not, just who is Theramidos? Btw, a rough map of the ci...

Re: Tales of the Black Kingdoms

I am also curious if it contains any additional material by other authors, or if it is exclusively my trilogy of scenarios (esp. since it seems to have gone from 64 to 80 pages). Pardon me if this is a silly question, but I take this to mean that you, as the author, have not actually seen/proofread...

try ebay

As always, I'd suggest ebay for minis: you can find a lot of people selling whole lots of older metal minis for the painter in you, and the newer plastic minis that come prepainted are usually sold in large volumes as singles on ebay. Many are quite cheap (so long as they aren't rare) and you can us...

Tales of the Black Kingdoms

Everyone, please feel free to post comments or ask me questions (post me a message for fastest response) when Tales shows up. I had a lot of fun writing it and would love some feedback. I am also curious if it contains any additional material by other authors, or if it is exclusively my trilogy of s...

I had grouped with Necromancy, though Nature Magic would be equally appropriate. Both?

Messantia spell: Fangs of the Night

Hi All; Maximo contacted me with this question: he noticed Zuthelia had a spell "Fangs of the Night" in her repertoire that was missing from the second book; I am guessing it missed the cut, but this reference is still there. Anyway, the spell is as follows, for those who need it. Players please ave...

Hi, another late response. The Tales are meant for lower level characters; you could probably start with some 2nd-3rd level types just fine in a normal group of 4-6 players; I'd maybe run a "prequel" scenario or two to get some 1st level PCs up to snuff for this one; but PCs starting at 2nd ought to...

Re: Tales of the Black Kingdom

I see it's not a Quilliams cover. Like previously stated, it's nice to have one artist to tie the line together. That said, I very much approve the cover artist of the Black Kingdoms book. Whoever he is did an outstanding job! Very powerful image, and makes me want to create a Kushite Barbarian! :)...

Hi there

Well, I am reading this, at last! Yes, I wrote the adventures in "Tales," and had a great time doing it. The first tale is set in Kush, and deals with a mystery surrounding the cult of Jullah. The second tale involves the little-explored land of Atlaia, referenced briefly by Howard and ignored by mo...
