Re: ACT: SF, Most Anticipated Fleet

Nerroth, not gonna lie but the only area of SFU history i consider myself 'knowledgeable' and even then just barely is the Alpha Octant. I try my best to get what I can about the other octants through osmosis of conversations here and on the Fed Commander forum. Either way i feel like the ISC would...

Re: Shield suggestion

Given that I'm most looking forward to seeing the game system go out of the Alpha Octant outright and setting out to explore the turbulent waters of places like Omega and the LMC, I certainly wouldn't argue against seeing more variety added to the fleets to be made available to this game over the co...

Re: ACT: SF, Most Anticipated Fleet

As far as I'm concerned I would personally love to have the ISC as a faction, partly because I love their ship design and partly because I feel like more people should be introduced to the anti-federation. I'd argue that the Mæsron Alliance in Omega is more of an "anti-Fed" than the ISC, given its ...

Re: Shield suggestion

OrneryRooster: I both agree and disagree with what you are getting at. Yes, the current one-half front shield rule is too much, in terms of representing what kind of protection that Klingons (and others like the Feds) ought to get in the front arc. But there is still a degree of increased protection...

Re: ACT: SF, Most Anticipated Fleet

Of the "native" Alpha Octant empires, the one I'd be most interested in is the Inter-Stellar Concordium, who I hope will be offered alongside the Andromedans in a future ACtA:SF volume (as they were paired together in both SFB Module C2 and FC: War and Peace ). The Andromedans would be equally inter...

Re: Shield suggestion

The Klingon (and Kestrel and Lyran) aft shield issue is only a factor in the Middle Years (as presented for FC in Briefing #2 ); by the time of the General War, the various shield refits integrated into the Main Era Ship Cards remove this issue from contention. For example, one could compare the Mai...

Re: Shield suggestion

To clarify, I meant to say that the one-quarter rule would still be written the same way the current one-half rule is (only with the new ratio of dropped hits), so attacks in the P, S, and A arcs would remain unaffected. Something like: *So long as it has a Shields score above 0, a ship of this clas...

Shield suggestion

There is a lot of debate over the Klingon (and Kestrel) forward shield rule, and whether or not it (or something like it) is a good thing to have in A Call to Arms: Star Fleet . On the one hand, it provides a degree of character to those ships which have it, but on the other can be argued as going t...

Re: Is ACTA SF a good analog for SFB or FC?

Klingons didn't have better front shields than others. The early klingon ships did have extremely weak rear shields. Relatively speaking that meant they had much stronger front shields than their own rear. I think that is what they are trying to recreate. I like the rule on what would be the older ...

Re: Is ACTA SF a good analog for SFB or FC?

I imagine the front shield rule as being more suitable for the Middle Years Klingons (and Kestrels), personally, where the aft shielding was more vulnerable than seen in the refitted ships (and wartime hulls) in the main time period. In FC , rather than show a series of refits on the same SSD, Middl...

Re: Is ACTA SF a good analog for SFB or FC?

One thing I might suggest is to take a look at the most recent errata file . For one, the Lumbering rule has been taken out entirely (though, if we ever see the likes of the Seltorian Battlewagon show up in ACtA:SF , I could see a case being made for that rule to be brought back in for that kind of ...

According to the new info in Communiqué #94, Federation Commander may not have to wait too long to get a taste of both C6 empires after all!

Re: (ACtA:SF) Lost Empires: Paravian, Carnivon, Peladine, Bo

I think the context of that quote was more to say that if/when such a conversion is done for FC , SVC will do the rules portion himself, rather than open the floor to submissions. (For example, the Early Years versions of the Carnivon and Paravian weapons offered in playtest form in Captain's Log #3...

Re: (ACtA:SF) Lost Empires: Paravian, Carnivon, Peladine, Bo

A preview file for SFB Module C6 has gone up on DriveThruRPG , including sample SSDs (a war cruiser apiece) for both the Paravians and Carnivons. For those who may have seen the earlier "raiding" Paravians done for Captain's Log #28 , these Paravians have been altered significantly, as these ships a...

Re: (ACtA:SF) Lost Empires: Paravian, Carnivon, Peladine, Bo

If anyone wants to hear more about what Module C6 has to offer, the most recent Star Fleet Universe On Call podcast (Episode 264, 09/26/2013) features a call-in by Steve Cole, Steve Petrick, and Jean Sexton. When they aren't talking about the pranks the Steves keep pulling on Jean over in Amarillo, ...

Re: (ACtA:SF) Lost Empires: Paravian, Carnivon, Peladine, Bo

It's on the ADB storefront now , and will ship to online orders from the 30th. Historically, the Carnivons were destroyed by the Kzintis and Lyrans, while the Paravians were accidentally made extinct by the Gorns. What if they had survived to the General War? This module includes 120 SSDs defining ...

Re: (ACtA:SF) Lost Empires: Paravian, Carnivon, Peladine, Bo

SFB Module C6 's formal publication is imminent, and SVC just posted this Carnivon map preview over on the ADB BBS. (The top map refers to a timeline where the Carnivons survived in their corner of space through to the start of the General War. The bottom map shows what might have happened had some...

Re: No SFB releases pending?

It might be worth clarifying if you are referring to ACtA:SF rather than SFB . As it happens, there is a new volume, Module C6: Lost Empires , due out for Star Fleet Battles in the near future; but it might be a while before any of the ships or empires in it would be candidates for conversion to Fed...

Re: (ACtA:SF) Lost Empires: Paravian, Carnivon, Peladine, Bo

We're finally getting close to the release of SFB Module C6 ; a new preview shows a glimpse of both the front and back covers. I've been spending a fair bit of time with reading BattleTech books as of late, and I found it interesting that in this case, the "wolves" are the ones who have green counte...

Starline 2500 fast light/war cruiser conversions?

Hello. So far, aside from the various fast ships shown in the Starline 2500 line so far (such as the Manta Ray -class NCF and the Star Tiger -class DNL) and one which has already been shown as a conversion using pre-existing parts (the Two Moons -class DDF), there was one breed of fast ship I was wo...
