If outside of running costs, all other maintenance is paid for by the Scout Service, least cost of interstellar commerce is the hundred tonne scout, which is assigned to some of their detached semi retired members.

Armour, by it's nature, is protective.

Hull points is toughness; the bigger you are, the inherent toughness multiplies.

At the other end of the scale, you can cost cut and lighten the hull, at ninety percent toughness from the default.
