Re: 400 ton J-2 design

Ummm, may I say some more things. I'm not trying to bust his chops, as I have said before I like the plan, just find that it is more likely suited for something else. Piracy, wouldn't it be better to lose the profit in your cargo and still have some kitty left over ready for the next run. Instead of...

Re: 400 ton J-2 design

An armour level of 4 or lower I consider light, any higher considering armour level limits, I say has medium armour. Starting to go in the range of private military ships (mercs) and light military ships. 0-4 Light, Civilian basic to advanced standards 5-8 Medium, Private Military/Light Military 9-1...

Re: Super Earths

How would they be determined? 3d6-3 would give a range of 0 to F, five more sizes added easily. However the big question would be DM's for planet bigger then B so that you could get the chance of some normal Atmospheres, whilst also not getting an atmosphere G or higher. Of the top of my head a good...

Re: Keeping track of initiative

Erm, can I ask you firstly, do you roll initiative each and every round?

I ask because I have encountered DM's of D&D doing this before. Is actually a mistake if you are. You just roll it once per encounter at the start.

Re: 400 ton J-2 design

ALL the free (non gov owned) traders have armour. (slap on turrets)? LMAO. That takes MILLIONS. Ok, tell me where I can find a typical, common trader design in one of mongooses books that has armour please? It doesn't take Millions. It only takes 1 million to buy one Beam Laser Brand new. Buy one t...

Re: 400 ton J-2 design

F33D if you'll check it, it has 4 tons set aside for turrets already. To me that just screams it is going to be armed on the frontier. And armed pretty heavily with 4 turrets. Remembering the concept for the ship is to be operating on the frontier. So yes, I read the specs very carefully. Could see ...

Re: 400 ton J-2 design

Looking at the design for me makes me think of it as a slow speed smuggler going to systems of the beacon tracks. When it goes to a normal area it then just becomes a odd honest trading ship. I think also it would find its way in to the service of pirates, due to its armour, jump drive and the amoun...

Re: The future is now: Navy to deploys lasers on ships in 20

more of a long awaited thing as we've known its possible for ages, especially since we have had technology to make small powerful lasers for a long time, used in mining, some industries and for medical usage.

Finally the big versions pop out.

Re: Oh Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me... Later?

Well, A Gas Giants atmosphere is incredibly dangerous, as well as a dangerously high Gravity to small objects like a ship trying to skim it. Couple months ago, me and my brother looked at a probes orbit of Jupiter. The Probe travelling fast, small and just watched it get thrown around violently in t...

Re: Oh Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me... Later?

In August, 2011, scientists using data from NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) have discovered six "Y dwarfs"—star-like bodies with temperatures as cool as the human body.
Cricky.

I think some of them would be skimmable.

*blinks blink blinks*
F33D you didn't read did you. I explained that the ship that cannot skim itself has a dedicated ship that can skim fuel for it.

And thank you Jonah, I was think that would be what it would be, just wasn't entirely sure.

Re: How long does it take to scoop fuel

Thats how I imagine it mostly. 1 hour skimming, preparations made found a good suitable spot enter the atmosphere load up and get back out again. 6 hour skimming, The same but, what you thought was a good spot turned out to be to dangerous so you went back out looking for another, and kept on trying...
