Re: Do you homebrew careers?

I went back to GDW's the New Era in order to make characters. No stupid rolling a Army guy who has Sensors 2, navigation 5 and Advocate 3 and no combat skills but that which his rank gives him. The New Era let you choose your skills (within a limit) and not have it 100% random like MGT. Fair enough...

Re: Traveller Wishlists for 2015

2) Official Traveller App(s) to generate characters, worlds, ships, etc. This is kind of all I want. I've done a single sub-sector by hand (rolled, then written up and rationalized), which is actually a useful exercise to learn the system and the world codes. But man, that first one takes a while! ...

Re: Do you homebrew careers?

Speaking for myself and not DickTurpin, Take a look at page 9 of the core rules and you will see that for most careers, the combined target numbers for survival and advancement are a 12. 6 and 6, 5 and 7, a few 8 and 4. There are a couple exceptions, but they don't stray far. The scouts seam to be ...

Touche. Well, if you're asking me, then which came first, using the careers or having them published?

Do you homebrew careers?

Or do you prefer published ones? I ask because a question in the Cosmopolite thread reminded me of an attitude I've seen elsewhere, of what looks like people waiting for an official resource. For myself, careers are pretty easy to knock out. The greater labor would be in a custom life events list, a...

Re: Book 10: Cosmopolite - Now on Drivethru

OK, I have read through the careers and I have a couple of questions related to how a certain type of citizen would fit into this system. 1. A Cab Driver (ala Die Hard 4) ... 1. Drive (any) or Flyer (grav) 2. Mechanic 3. Navigation 4. Streetwise 5. Persuade 6. Drive (any) or Flyer (grav) At rank 1,...

Re: A Guide to the Third Imperium?

So how about producing an epic sized, full colour, high production standards, comprehensive and systemless Guide to the Third Imperium in a manner similar to The Guide to Glorantha produced by Moon Design/Issaries recently? But is there a Barnes & Noble audience-kickstarter-never-played-Traveller-b...

Maybe its just the group I play with, but we don't seem to need a rule. Give them generic hirelings, and they'll make them into ablative human armor all on their own. :)

Re: Perhaps FGMP/PGMP need a nixing/modding...

Now the Plasma Gun has a huge surplus of raw damage over most weapons in it's Tech Level, but it's heavy, expensive, and will draw fire from anyone who sees it brought into action. Which is about the same limitations as a .50 M-2 machine gun. (maybe a full auto version of a 20mm anti-tank rifle) If...

Re: Space "Gypsies"

Maybe an asteroid-hulled civilian ship as a headquarters/city/flag ship. Its worth thinking about how they got started. Religious refugees? Political refugees from a conquered planet? Or possibly just the children of belters who never formed an attachment to the idea of being planetside. I like the ...

Re: A Star Wars related question involving Traveller...

]I played in a one-shot that was inspired by the first act of 'A New Hope'. The PCs were bounty hunter types on a backwater world somewhere in the Spinward Marches. A ticket came up for a fugitive psion who had suddenly popped up on the grid and was trying to get off the planet. The complicating fa...

Re: A Star Wars related question involving Traveller...

I regret I don't have this first hand, but in another thread on another forum I've seen the claim that a book in a previous edition (Mega?) statted up Luke Skywalker. He had Piloting 2 - period. Not exactly how I'd handle it, I'd throw some 0-level skills on there too, but I thought it was fun...

Re: High rank with low social

I'm getting a game together for my wife and roommate. One of them ended up rolling only a 5 for Social Standing. That same character then went on to become a Broker promoted to Rank 5, with 100,000 credits on hand, TWO free trader ships, two ship shares, and two energy weapons. Based on a true stor...

High Guard questions

So, point defense. Do pulse lasers used for point defense take the -2 mod to hit, or is it a straight up roll? Similarly, does point defense suffer ranged penalties? (Without the laser errata I had considered using range penalties whether official or not, as a way to make sense of the disparity betw...

Re: Question about Thrust rating in High Guard

I've just been looking at High Guard myself. I notice the 20-ton multipurpose fighter gets up to 9g of thrust. I'm now picturing the 10 ton fighter as more commonly available than I figured from the core book. Either outdated military surplus, or else new Megacorp production for the civilian market....

Possibly, anyway.

Discounting artificial diamonds for [reasons], there's possibly a niche job there for Traveller universe characters, collecting diamonds on high pressure but cold worlds like Uranus and Neptune.

Re: Prime Directive as system neutral source book?

It looks like the OP knows this, but those unfamiliar with Savage Worlds might not: there isn't really going to be a formulaic, mechanical rules conversion from any of these systems into SW. So there's nothing to choose between or worry about there. The question then becomes what version has the bes...

I threw a yes in there, but its qualified: I'd check it out to see how you pulled it off, I don't know that I'd be all over it. Like crazy cat, my first impulse for a pirates game would be Savage Worlds. I also have fond memories of an ICE game, Run out the Guns, based on Rolemaster mechanics but wi...
