Re: Which ships don't you use, and why?

Avoid: ===== Any DN. I prefer agile maneuvers over pregnant rhinos trying to make turns on ice skates. Same for any Lumbering heavy/battleship/cruiser. Aside from that: ========== Fed: Callahan kind of crunchy. Prefer the DD class. Klink: E4 as Callahan. Rom: War Eagle (underpowered). Snipe is amazi...

Re: Star Trek: CTA newbie rules questions.

Cool beans.

Bad, bad, bad playtester!! (That's who told me it was illegal last game.)

He was playing Feds CA and I was trying to line up weapons on my D7's.

Captain Jonah wrote:Yep. move the ship as normal, line up on to the target and just say you are centre lining.

Unless you are in some sort of ultra competitive game most people should be happy with that.
Asking because last game I was told that was not a legal maneuver. Is this in the rules faq/errata somewhere?

Re: Star Trek: CTA newbie rules questions.

Another question: " centerlining?" is it possible to "line up" your ship and get both PS/SH weapons to bear on a target directly in front?

CTA: SF pricing question?

I was shopping around in the store here and did some quick math. Why are 16 ships 75 pounds, 5 30 pounds and singles 10 each? I tend to buy small fleets to start with but @ £10 each that sort of stings. I am almost tempted to pick up fleet boxes and trade away the ships I do not plan to use. If it i...

Re: The rules as stated By Matthew Sprange

Thanks for answers so far. Sorry will be more specific. Not all stealth = cloak. Orion, dust clouds, etc. How does say 4 AD of drone work vs. an Orion ship (stealth.) Another question. Is it possible to "line up" one ship to another (target ship has already moved and then you move your vessel then t...

Re: The rules as stated By Matthew Sprange

This is a compilation of all the Rules Rulings from Matt that I can remember or find. I have tidied them up and will print them off as needed. The ACTAs topics go back thousands of posts now and its getting very hard to find a lot of these. Cloaks • A cloaked ship can make one 45 degree turn when e...

Star Trek: CTA newbie rules questions.

Did not see these in the rules, FAQ or errata, sorry if they are, still learning the game  Dust cloud only has an effect if a ship is in it. I.e. firing thru has no effect? Does cloaking movement override a ship with superior turning specs (agile, turn mode 3, moves 6" while cloaked means o...

ETA for all fleet boxes? Example Kzinti says pre-order with no release date?

Thanks.

Star Trek CTA models: Resin vs. Metal?

I have always wondered why metal is preferred over resin in so many miniature settings. Aside from WoTC's DnD and Heroclix most other IP's lean towards metal. I started with the old lead figures in the 70's. I always wondered why plastics were not used more often. Figured it was cost... :?: Recently...

And here I was making my own set of ship cards...though I may go aheadand finish them anyway. None of us heard about the game before the minis went offline. So we have to proxy ships as well.

Re: Star trek pdf version

I prefer pdf versions. The lack of index makes searching for rules a pain, it's much quicker when you can ctrl-f in Acrobat. I bought the hard cover (already out of date, sigh :D) last week because I was unable to find a pdf version. So it looks like I have to pay full again from Bits and Mortar? Is...

Re: Rules question. Plasmas? (vs. Klink and crits?)

As far as I know. 1 )- Yes, Klingon double shield work against plasma, though only if it strikes the front arc (remember the RX option). In this situation you roll the plasma damage and half it (so a 4AD plasma would roll, getting a total damage of 14 say, which the shield would reduce to 7). 2 )- ...

Rules question. Plasmas? (vs. Klink and crits?)

Two questions: 1) Plasmas don't check for shield bypass because they "envelop the entire ship. " How does this interact with the Klingon 1/2 damage to fore arc attacks rule? Is damage halved anyway based on arc? 2) Since you never roll attack dice for plasmas (page 7 damaging enemy ships and 15 seek...
