Re: Elric of Melniboné

Just wondering why you thought Goldar was so idiotic Olaus? He really doesn't fit well with Moorcock's Lords of Law and besides that he has one of the lamest names ever. I think that as a god he would be more suitable to some other universe and pantheon. In general I think that Chaosium's interpret...

Re: Elric of Melniboné

As do I. I really enjoyed Secrets of the Steppes. You will be a worthy successor to Pete and Loz, assuming that Mongoose retains the EC license. I hope that too. Mongoose's Elric books (including the most recent one) have been much more loyal to Moorcock's books than what Chaosium's Stormbringer bo...

Re: Elric of Melniboné

I really hope that the license stays with Mongoose. I haven't started hosting Secrets of the Steppes yet, because I've been waiting Talons of Winter (first part is really good, but you really need the second part for the full experience) and I wish that we shall see future Elric releases of the same...

Re: Elric of Melniboné

That's true. However Talons of Winter is still listed as future release. So, hopefully removal of Elric line is some sort of glitch or mistake.

Re: The Swamp Horror - my latest creation!

Nice one, those mud men were probably the most difficult enemies in Moonstone, because one mistake could kill you. PS: Movement rate, weapon reach and size of it's natural weapons are missing. You also might want to give it some skills like resilience, persistence and stealth (for sneaking against t...

Re: visibility at night

Close combat and ranged attack situational modifiers (pages 135 and 141) give attack penalties for darkness, but those don't tell how far you can see during the night. It's GMs decision how much darkness and fog affect to non-combat skills. Then there's rules how much storms reduce visibility in pag...

Re: Solomon Kane - Legend Style

I love Solomon Kane, a lot. I'm a big REH fan if you haven't guessed, though I haven't read a lot of the more obscure Conan stuff and so on. I loved the movie with Purefoy in and he makes a solid Solomon Kane. As for the RPG. I've read the SW of Solomon Kane and it isn't too bad, it certainly could...

Re: New Professions,skills and Backgrounds

I guess we do disagree, because I would expect the Mathmatics skill to be able to help me track the differences between a Babylonian Mathmatician and a modern Mathmatician. If the skill doesn't track that difference, then what game mechanic would cover that issue? Metalsmithing is another example o...

Re: Elric & Legend

I personally prefer the MRQ2 book to the Legend book. It has a nicer index, the Elric book refers to the pages in MRQ2. also as has been pointed out, the MRQ2 book has more content than the Legend book. Also the MRQ2 book looks nicer and has a nicer cover AND it's bigger. I did buy the Legend PDF a...

Re: Elric & Legend

Thank you both. I think I will get the setting book & maybe Legend or another supplement for now so he can start preparing as a GM. btw is the Elric GM screen any good? GM screen has combat manoeuvres and setting specific charts. Most useful of the Elric supplements is Cults of the Young Kingdoms, ...

Re: Elric & Legend

Elric's core book has setting specific rules and background information, while MRQII or Legend core rules have the game system. Legend rules don't have stats for elementals (which MRQII rules have), but otherwise I would recommend updated Legend version of the rules.

Re: Second Session Update

For most part Legend's system is quick and simple to play, but there are few things which you should remember in combat. In bigger battles it can be bit of a chore to keep in track how many combat actions each combatant has, but it's manageable. And you should read the charge rules very carefully, b...

Re: Non-humans

Personally humans bore me.If I want a billion different cultures of humans I would play in a historical setting or Greyhawk(which I dislike btw) 'Standard' races don't have to be stereotypical at all. I love Elves but just because they have pointy ears doesn't mean they have to be Tolkinesque. Ther...

Re: Hobbits and Halflings

I would have thought that a halfling would have been short and stout, or at least tubby. A weight of 16kg seems awfully low to me. Perhaps Midnight halflings are not the same as Tolkeiny ones. I would agree that Tolkien's hobbits were well built and the Midnight version appear to be a bit slim (but...

Re: Non-humans

I've been wondering if given the chance would you run a goblin PC? Or an Orc or Ogre for that matter? My current campaign doesn't include any of those races, but I have played as an orc in a campaign setting where they weren't evil race (although they were barbaric and warlike), but they had diplom...

Re: Running OTPs In Legend

As far as anything "sexual" I don't outright forbid it, but neither do I do a damm thing to discourage it, with many reasons. 1. In my early AD&D days one group had this saying/chant about their mission was to "rape, pillage, rape, burn, rape, loot.. ..oh and did we mention 'rape'?" Was a complete ...

Re: Hobbits and Halflings

I think that Legend's halfling size is in line with the rest of the Legend's creature stats. Halfiling's average size is exactly half of human's average size. And while halfling's are bigger than ordinary dogs they are smaller than war dogs, most apes and dwarves. Legend doesn't explicitly state ho...

Non-humans

When I was younger I thought that it's cool to have all the standard fantasy races in my campaign settings, but more older I grow the less I include those into my own campaigns. I have nothing against Tolkienesque elfs, dwarfs, orcs, halflings etc. (I still love his books, especially the first age s...
