Re: What is the Traveller system called?

Something like that would be nice... the trick is to make it recognisable to everyone. If Mongoose were to officially say "this is what the system can be referred to as" then that would probably do the trick.

Nope. That's a specific license that allows people to use Third Imperium IP in a very limited setting.

Re: What is the Traveller system called?

Maybe we can call it the Herpestidae 2D6 OGL (the latin family name for the Mongoose is Herpestidae) ;)

Yes, but the question is "what do you call it if you're just releasing under the OGL".

What is the Traveller system called?

Related to the "Universal Machine Publications" thread... how are third party publishers supposed to refer to the system that Traveller uses if they're just publishing OGL material for it to expand what's available as open content for it? They can't just call it "the Traveller OGL" without needing t...

Wouldn't it be better to publish the whole SRD at once rather than in sections?

Re: Basic Character Generation 2d6 SF SR

Gruffty the Hiver, Forget about SRD for a minute. Legion is $1. It's a complete core rule book. The 2d6 SF thing costs more and only covers rolling 2d6 for six characteristics and determining characteristic modifiers. Are you ok with that? Anyway, the thread starter from a 1-post spammer was delete...

Re: [Universal Machine] Basic Character Generation 2d6 SF SR

Why is it being deleted? If it's a document describing basic character generation released under the OGL, what's the problem?

...or just use the formula I posted. Seriously, I've done all the hard work for you and translated it into easy units. All you need to do is remember whether you're using the full distance or the half-distance and use the appropriate equation. That's it.

None. (there's also the question of "why would you want to terraform a planet when it's vastly cheaper to just build a habitat there")

Re: K'Kree, Virushi, & Hivers oh my

Why not use the Alien Races books from GURPS Traveller? OK, you won't get Mongoose-compatible game rules for them, but you'll get the background info at least. Re: [2300] Post Kafer war?

Basically, the Kafers (under Triumphant Destiny) attacked Human Space in 2302, but got turned back at Queen Alice's star. Then the Kafer Over-Suzerain assembled an even bigger fleet and sent it to attack human space again in 2305. They got all the way to Nibelungen in 2309 where they were finally de...

It was covered in 2320AD, which was released (briefly) for T20 and isn't available anymore.

Colin Dunn wrote that as well as Mongoose's 2300AD, but has said that MG2300AD won't necessarily be going the same direction.

Re: Sand Caster Question

Reality is different than the ideal. The question posed is a valid one, and referring to a previous rule set upon which most of the current rule set duplicates is also a valid. I do think it's obvious (and has been previously proven multiple times in the past) that the different rule books were dev...

Quite honestly it's the only sane one to have. Trying to reconcile differences between editions is a madman's game.

Re: Foreven, What do You Want to See?

I will admit that for the longest time the success of the d66 lists has baffled me. A line of products that is one page long, has no art, essentially no time is spent promoting them that cost 50 cents each and month after month they outperform all my multi page pathfinder releases with a sizable ar...

Re: Foreven, What do You Want to See?

In the interest of full disclosure, I discovered a blog post this morning where (and no I am not making any of this up) a French-speaking Traveller player basically accused me of the ultimate sin because I am daring to publish a Foreven Sector. He seems to be more put out by the disappointment of T...

Re: Foreven, What do You Want to See?

I don't think it is nervousness about market size that has kept publishers away thus far. I think it is more licensing concerns over "when/if mongoose's license with traveller ends, will I be able to sell my book?" Ultimately, that may be a problem, but the "I want to do it" reason built enough to ...

Re: Foreven, What do You Want to See?

Personally I'm skeptical (and to be clear I think the reasons you provide are sound, I'm just not convinced that there will be enough sales to support a big commitment to Foreven). But I guess someone has to take the risk and dive into it big time at some point to see what does actually happen, so g...
