Re: Intelligent weapon, now I'm lost?

I seem to have miscommunicated. My questions are not about roleplaying the character at all, it's about the game's rules for an intelligent weapon, the game's rules for computers and programs, and especially the game's rules that indicate one might buy a gun that can shoot itself, but which contradi...

Re: Intelligent weapon, now I'm lost?

It's a role playing game. Should a character with absolutely no combat skill or even target shooting experience be planning out the details of how best to fight, know what weapons are best in what situations, the best way to customize them, optimal ranges, and so on? Sounds like a good role playing...

Intelligent weapon, now I'm lost?

I'm starting a new group; they are all new to Traveller, and I am sorta new-- ran one game last year. The good news is that most of them enjoyed character rollups, and also that they embraced the concept that high-tech gear can provide the same kinds of edges that magic will in fantasy games. We've ...

Re: Drinaxi Wyvern

Anyway your example of the Centari is perfect. Thousands of Nobles wanting to wear the shiny captains hat. I am looking at rationalising why the players are finding Harriers and why they featured so prominently when anyone with a brain would have been building bigger more capable ships. I see the H...

Re: How to calculate in-system travel times easily

Sweet, thank you. I'm one of those fools who REALLY wants to know how long it takes to get to planet A, planet B, and the gas giant for scooping, then out to the 100d limit, so this helps a lot.

Re: Prime Directive...

I would just like to see maybe 8 or 10 pages with 3 artist-rendered ships on each page with a little blurb telling about the ship and what it's used for in the Starfleet Universe. Stuff like: Number of crew Ship function (cruiser, freighter, luxury liner, scout, stealth, pirate, sci-lab, starbase, ...

Re: Star Frontiers conversion

As to an article covering MgT/Star Frontier conversions, an email to the folks at http://www.starfrontiersman.com/ and to Matt might quickly address this (and provide an appropriate place to 'publish'). Agreed, SFMan might be a better place. The forums there are reasonably active, and I know there ...

Re: Keeping track of initiative

Erm, can I ask you firstly, do you roll initiative each and every round? I ask because I have encountered DM's of D&D doing this before. Is actually a mistake if you are. You just roll it once per encounter at the start. No, we didn't. (That hasn't been part of D&D since before some of my players w...

Keeping track of initiative

I've only run Traveller a few sessions, and I was recently reviewing the combat rules. Initiative, and the dynamic element, seemed the first thing to go out the window. How do the rest of you keep track of the changes in PC/NPC initiative during combat? I tried using a magnetic board, with character...

Re: Free Epic Campaign - The Pirates of Drinax

I hope not. The average appears to be about 3 1/2 months between installments. I've just gotten a group past character generation and into the ship, and look forward to a lot more.

Re: How do you enjoy Traveller ?

I've been lurking around the fringes of Traveller since the '80s. I found it easier to scare up groups for Space:1889 and Twilight:2000, among GDW games, than Traveller. I bought reprints of the old books to have the rules around, while shadowing forums like this one. Still, I bought the Mongoose ru...

Re: Unusual spaceship names

When I last ran a game, one of the ships was the "Alfred E. Newman," but the transponder code also squawked "Sky King."

When they got a stealth outfit added, they referred to it as the "Little Black Dress."

Re: Different fuel question: transfer times?

I'm liking all of this, thanks! Especially Captain Jonah. Regarding dragging the target off into the black, that's something I was thinking would need to happen. But I'm the referee, I'd much rather the players think of that on their own. I don't see towing clamps in the Core RB, are they somewhere ...

Re: Different fuel question: transfer times?

Now, something like fuel transfers from a dead ship to another ship, if you ever had to engage in such ;) are not going to be routine, safe, or quick. If you could do it at all. You'd need extra gear not part of the standard kit aboard most ships before you could even think about doing it. That's s...

Different fuel question: transfer times?

How long does it take to fuel up a starship? Assuming the connections are all standardized, of course. Not that I'm interested in getting off the station in a hurry or nuthin', I'm just asking. You know, for a friend.... :D And I'm certainly NOT contemplating pumping out of a freighter that just hap...

Re: Types of campaigns

The Trader gets caught in a system that is the target of a mercenary unit that has some space transport. The mercs are seizing all shipping in the system until further notice, and are chartering your ship to hold the impounded crews. See the Elizabeth Moon novel "Trading in danger" for what might ha...

Re: Traveller 2300 Character Creation Query

Has anyone tried to start a thread on t2300 character creation? I was wondering how you would handle say using the example from the Traveller Core rulebook but using T2300 rules? There was a thread asking about persuasion or something is it a Traveller skill or something else. That was me, earlier ...
