Re: Official A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Update
Aw, you haven't seen anything yet. Anyone who lived through the TFG era of SFB knows the SFU has a long tradition of errata for the errata on the errata of their errata. That's what ADB thought the players wanted. They were seriously wrong, but they have learned their lessons. In anything as comple...

Re: Any news on the fleet boxes
@Greg Smith: Hey, the SFB master rulebook is 464 pages long!! So 11 pages isn't too bad.

Re: Plasma Bolts
So when you fire a bolt, does it act like other direct-fire weapons and ignore the shields on a natural '6'? Since it's no longer "seeking", it should. That would make it a poor-man's photon torpedo...

I think this is roughly correct:
Type-R: 7 AD
S: 5 AD
G: ??
F: 2

Re: Lets talk Gorn
I think Battlegroup Murfreesboro played something like sixty games? And with so many empires to deal with, it's hard to give everything a thorough workout. Especially with the rules changing constantly as well. So it's easy to spot really gross errors, but a lot of things are going to slip under the...

Yeah, sixty ships on the table at once would simply be untenable in Federation Commander. As for SFB...
Might be too big even for ACTASF, but I suppose it could be an all-day game if you wanted.

I never disputed that. You're arguing with yourself.A Kzinti who charges in with overloaded Disruptors nose to nore with a Photon or Plasma race with loaded weapons is in for a world of hurt.

Re: Shields
Yes, as I understand it, your post is correct. It is both reinforcement and repair. A ship with 18 shields that rolls a 12 goes up to 30 to the end of the turn, and then at the end of the turn it drops down to the original maximum Shield rating (24 in the example you quoted).

And a Fed ship which goes Reload-Overload is stuck for two turns with Power Drain. Ouch.

Re: Im curious again!
Crunch power (damage output in one turn) is not what makes a weapon a "heavy weapon", it's defined by the background. Drones and phasers are secondary weapons, disruptors, plasma, photons are heavy weapons.

Lincoln, your shields would be at 24. Boost energy to shields repairs shields if they were damaged.

Re: Im curious again!
Disruptors are heavy weapons, and on the DW and larger they'll have as many disruptors as the Klingons. The Kzinti can run some Drone heavy fleets that can really crush a smaller ship every turn unless you are carefull but they suffer in close due to lack of any heavy weapons

Well, "destroynought" sounds silly.
Say, if a dreadnought dreads nothing, what does a frignought do?

Re: AAR - Federation vs. Romulans.
If you're cloaked, drones cannot be fired at your ship at all. If you're fading in, you get a 4+ Stealth save, so 10AD of drones would score, on average 3.5 * 10 / 2, or 17.5 damage. Also, 8 AD of plasma is 3.5 * 8 hits on average, or 28 hits. Which isn't bad. If the Hawk series are a bad bargain in...

Nomad, yes the next hardcover should have more stats for Tholians and Orions. Dunno when we'll be seeing renders for those ships though.

Re: How much fun is ACTA:SF?
"Tech sloshing" is a term for proposing a ship from empire X which uses weapons exclusively used by empire Y. Ion cannons are exclusively used by the Vudar so proposing a Klingon ship with ion cannons is tech sloshing. The intention is to keep each empire as distinct as possible.

Re: Official A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Update
Plasma-Ds used ammunition, pre-packaged plasmas in a factory. It cost 0.5 points of power each to get them ready to launch. Once you ran out of canisters, you ran out of plasma-Ds. Ships mounting them usually had 2 or 3 full reloads for their racks. Edit: my ire was directed at people who think the ...

Re: Scouts and variants
Dunno when they will be officially appearing. Scout rules are in the main rulebook I understand. You can take a rough guess at what a scout would look like by taking a frigate or light cruiser and swapping the heavy weapons (photons/disruptors/plasma) for the Scout trait.
