Re: SF - Question About Fed Combined Drone Racks

But it wouldn't be in "one wave" would it? It would be three separate waves of six drones each.

Re: ACtA:SF - Down-firing and the Scout trait?

Myrm, the SFU defines that bases don't blind their own channels anyway, so the handwavium is built-in. Personally, I'd rather simply see the whole blinding channels business ignored. The "official" ships with the Scout trait will not have heavy weapons for the most part (yes, I know about the SSCS G...

Re: Small cloaking question.

Two cases here: It is in a dust cloud and "loses the benefit" of the cloak, but still suffers penalties, no firing. It becomes uncloaked (either because it's crippled and lost the cloak trait or uncloak special action), then it can fire. If it's crippled it can still only fire one weapon though, lik...

Comments on changing lightbulb session report

I don't want to clutter the "How many clones does it take to change a lightbulb" session thread with extraneous comments, making it hard for others to read the session, so I'll just say here that it's hilarious so far and I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of it.

Re: Rules check on Klingon shields

Personally, if I were doing it, I'd roll it all at once and then round it. Rolling and rounding each weapon system may be legal, but surely it would slow things down... OK maybe I lose several damage points this way, but if I wanted a deeply serious, slow game I'd play chess or something.

Re: [ACTA-SF] Looking ahead - Hellbore

Iron D. As Nomad said, the HB in FedCmdr does half damage to the weakest shield, always. That's true. However, my comments were based on actual play experience. In practice , with the shield reinforcement, shield repair, and shield box transfer rules being what they are in FC, you pretty much have ...

Re: Starline 2500 Federation Light Dreadnought, The Splendid

Ships get added to the universe, not to any specific game. They may appear first in one game or another, but I don't think you'll ever see any unit that only appears in one game and not in any others. That's what I meant by "no ACTA-specific".

Re: [ACTA-SF] Looking ahead - Hellbore

Garth, I disagree. El Diablito's idea does replicate how it works in FC pretty well. In FC, there is no direct-fire Hellbore option, so you find yourself pumping Hellbore after Hellbore into the target, turn after turn, and just wearing away the shields, maybe scoring insignificant internal damage f...

Re: Definition of Weapon System

Can we get an official ruling on this? Weapon System seems to be interpreted as a weapon type, e.g. if you can only fire one weapon system you are only firing one type of weapon, such as phasers. Each individual entry is a weapon, so when you take a critical hit that loses one random weapon you lose...

Each Attack Die represents one weapon firing. Each weapon may or may not be able to score multiple hits. "Weapons, overload and fire all four photon torpedoes!" "Aye, Captain!" [SFX: ptu-ptu-ptu-ptu-boom] "Sensors, how many hits?" "Out of four weapons fired, twenty-seven of them hit." Serious...

Re: Squadron Boxes

ADB used to sell miscast pewter 2400s for cheap at Origins. ADB had a box of miscasts that gamers could go through at each Origins. Miscast metal minis go into the pot to be melted down and re-cast, so Jean Sexton would plead for gamers to "Save a starship from a fate worse than death!!" Jean sold 4...

Re: Starline 2500 Federation Light Dreadnought, The Splendid

Barticus, the spade-shaped saucers are for fast ships only, it has something to do with the shape of the warp field (less "warp drag"). You see something similar on the Fast Cruiser. It's from SFB. Remember that these ships aren't just for ACTA but also for SFB, FC, and Star Fleet Armada/Starmada, s...

Re: ACTA SF - Map Based Campaign?

A hex-based map is simply a special case of a map where you have to follow certain lines (node-and-path type map). The only difference is that each hex has a "line" to each adjacent hex, and most of the nodes are simply empty with nothing of any interest in them. The most important battles will be i...

Re: [ATCA-SF] Looking Ahead - Phaser-G

That's just it though, a Ph-G IS basically 4 Ph-3 duct taped together... I took "each successful hit" to mean "each AD which rolls high enough to hit" not "each hit scored". I really wish ACTA used different terminology, nearly every game from D&D onwards distinguishes whether or not you "hit" and "...

Re: Concerns and Possible Solutions

Another factor that is ignored in the analysis is stellar debris, which will either stop drones cold or at least give a 5+ save vs any damage. While large planets, dust clouds and asteroids are uncommon in SFB/FC, they're pretty common on the ACTA tabletop so must be considered.

Re: Stellar Debris and other such Questions

Another principle from SFB is, "If it doesn't explicitly say they do, then they don't." There is, apparently, no rule saying that drones and plasma get any bonus (STILL have not got preorders here in Australia, darn it) so they don't. Tactical implication is that hiding in a dust cloud or asteroid f...

Re: [ATCA-SF] Looking Ahead - Phaser-G

Katadder's objection is without basis, you CAN save AD for later defensive attacks. So there's no reason not to do treat the Ph-G as a phaser-3 with 4AD. I think the trickiest Hydran weapon to model will be the Hellbore. The way it "wraps around" shields is hard to model in ACTA. Treat it like drone...
