The Fed ship(s) with the spade-shaped saucers are the "fast" variants, packing fewer guns and bigger engines. Intended to "slip behind enemy lines" and do raids. The spade shaped saucer gives it a different shaped warp field, reducing "warp drag". They were later replaced by the raiding dreadnoughts...

"Significantly less shield-piercing weapons" Well, in the SFU you have to batter through the shield before doing any damage to the enemy, pretty much... maybe all weapons will have the burn-out property or something, but the ships will have thick shields. About the only weapons I can think of that a...

With this kind of damage curve do you really want to see them take the same amount of time to load? Rambler, I don't see why not. Fully overloaded photons is a potential 64 points of damage, plus phasers, makes around 100 points at range zero. Gorn BC has a 100-point alpha with its plasma. Of cours...

I see a number of posters getting hung up on the number of turns it takes to load plasma... there is absolutely no reason that a turn in AcTA: SF has to be the same length of time as a turn in SFB/FC . As long as the game feels right and the results of battles are consistent across game engines, it'...

Kzinti don't eat Hydrans, they are co-belligerents with the Hydrans against the Lyrans (another feline/humanoid species). Lyrans DO eat Hydrans. (I always think that somewhere in the "source tapes" there's a script for a Lyran episode of the Twilight Zone where the protagonist finds a copy of a book...

CAs and D7s can take a hit all right, but they aren't the biggest things out there. In the Star Fleet Universe, the big gun capital ships are the dreadnoughts and heavy battlecruisers, which are 150% and 125% the size of a cruiser, respectively. The biggest ship which was really built was the Klingo...

The Star Fleet Universe background has many different kinds of fighters. Many of them are armed with drones or plasma torpedoes, so in a game of SFB a heavy carrier (CVA) can launch two squadrons of fighters (24 counters), each of which can launch 2 drones per turn (sometimes more), each of which la...

At this stage, nobody knows what's going to happen... It could go three ways, or even more. 1. AcTA: STFU is a cuckoo and NA starves. 2. No effect. They attract different players and each grows on its own. 3. AcTA: STFU introduces more players and attracts more attention to the AcTA game engine, and...

I recall a Larry Niven novel in which Neptune was fitted with an enormous engine and used to tow Earth further away from the Sun (which had expanded after having fused most of its hydrogen). (The engine relied on Neptune's atmosphere for fuel and to absorb the shock of firing, it floated in the atmo...

The Zocchi plastic versions of the Federation ships used whatever plastic was to hand when they were made. Some were transparent and were sold as "cloaked" versions.

If you remember watching the episode Balance of Terror , Enterprise was able to "depth charge" the Romulan Warbird with its phasers. In the SFU, cloak doesn't make you completely invisible, just hard to detect. It is "the ultimate form of ECM". It increases the range bracket your weapons are resolve...

Simple answers: TOS had battles happening at warp speed, so battles happen at warp. Canon from later Trek is ignored as outside the license. Fastest speed you can do in combat is ~30 times the speed of light, if you go faster than that you have "disengaged by acceleration" and left the battle. Even ...

I will bet my bottom dollar that AcTA:SF will not have any kind of power management mechanic*. There's no requirement for an SFU game to have a power management mechanic. Starmada: Klingon Armada does not, and Star Fleet Battle Force (the card game) don't. *(Unless Matt Sprange decides that yelling ...

You could fudge it. "No personal concealable weapons" becomes a local ordnance prohibiting the actual concealment of weapons. Open carry is fine.

I don't think it is written in stone that plasma torps will take 3x longer to load than disruptors or phasers. Starmada: Klingon Armada has rules for plasma torps, and they just have the same "slow firing" rule as other slow weapons. In Starmada, slow firing weapons simply cannot be fired on consecu...

Any crossover between universes is going to have to handwave any inconsistencies. Something doesn't make sense? Just yell "SQUIRREL!" and move on while everyone is distracted.

Kzinti (Don't particularly like the "8-bit sperm" look of their ships) Kzinti ships are intended to look like cats. The front of the ship is the 'head', with the sensor dishes as the 'ears', the pylons with the drones in them are the 'claws' and the engines are the rear legs and 'tail'. And t...

Just FYI, the first book for AcTA:SF will probably have the same ships from the Klingon and Romulan Border/Attack products for FC, so that means the following Empires: Federation (Lots!) Klingons (Wide range, with all major ship classes covered) Romulans (Wide range, but they have three series of sh...

Re: decals, I believe Mark Hoyle at starfighter decals is considering re-sizing his line of SFU decals for the new line of ships, and I heard that "Mongoose is reconsidering their decision not to do decals" which means that there may be decals from Mongoose. Hydrans: Wait! these guys don't even breath oxygen and they want our worlds? Well what else can you expect from a race with three sexes.
They want our women! Because you can't play Bridge with only three people.
