Re: SFU Questions

Romulan warships and around 10% of Orions have cloaks. The Romulan Snipe police ship does not have a cloak, for example. In order to cloak efficiently, a ship needs to be designed from the ground up to take advantage of how the cloak works. Things like the shape of the warp field and energy emission...

Re: A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Rules Preview

Yup. They were Alfred the Great and Theodoric the Great. Alfred was destroyed in an ambush by Romulans at the same time as the events in the TOS episode Balance of Terror. (Alfred and Enterprise were at different ends of the chain of warning stations the Federation put up.)

Re: A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Rules Preview

Yes, Federation aft phasers are an SFU-ism. Without them, the Constitution-class has no defenses to the rear. You'll be grateful for those phasers when dealing with drones and plasma torpedoes. ETA: Yes, tactically in the SFU all ships fly at a pretty similar speed. Most ships generate enough power ...

Re: A Call to Arms: Star Fleet Rules Preview

Power drain sounds cool. I note that whilst I can cut power to the engines or the guns, I can't draw power from the shields, though... In the SFU, the engines generate power and the power is committed to either movement or weapons. Shields take very little power (two units of power to raise to full...

Re: A European podcast?

I'm sure that Paul Franz would be over the moon if someone from Mongoose called in to chat about ACTA: SF on his podcast. I realize timezones are a problem, but you'd only need to do it once.

Re: Planet Mongoose

I wonder if the ACTA: NA grappling rules could be adapted for tractor beams?

Re: Planet Mongoose

In regards to wild weasels and pseudo-plasma, I think that AcTA: SF should simply ignore those rules, much as Federation Commander and Star Fleet Armada do. They're necessary in SFB for balance, but in AcTA I think they'd simply be a complication. (Not to mention ECM plasma, enveloping plasma torped...

Re: Exploding issue..

From the way it's worded, I read it as a separate die roll for each ship. From a game balance perspective, separate die rolls are less "swingy" than one. In the example given, five die rolls should statistically come closer to the expected average than one. So you'll get some of the ships taking lot...

Re: A Call to Arms: Star Fleet on Pre-Order

I hear the big boxes with sixteen ships from one fleet will have a basic rulebook (enough to play the game) in them.

The book is expected to arrive around the end of November, just in time for Christmas!

Re: Dark Eon Assassin Comic

Is this similar to the old GW solo boardgame called (IIRC) Chainsaw Warrior? The plot was that you were a lone soldier sent into somewhere (New York?) where a dimensional rift had opened, spilling out horrible monsters and turning people into zombies. As you went through the game you encountered mon...
