Ben2, I'd be up for the "tale of space gamers" thing. Maybe I'll do a diary on the Fed Comm boards, there's space for minis photos there...

Re: Dissapointed in the lack of Hype for the release ACTA:SF

I'm sure the minis will be gorgeous, I saw the computer models. What I'm really curious to read is the rules. And to play a few games to get a feel for the system.

Re: Dissapointed in the lack of Hype for the release ACTA:SF

Mongoose does seem to have a different marketing strategy to ADB, I have noticed. ADB gives people more detail about all aspects of the company's internal workings (I read SVC's My Day blog every day) and the development of new products. ADB's belief is that this will build buzz. Mongoose seems to p...

Re: Any news on fleet box contents and pricing?

Release is "end of November". Still about a month before you can get your hands on the minis. Should be a big announcement soon, there was a rush to get the minis designs finally approved so that they could be manufactured, painted, and photographed. Fleet box is "sixteen ships and rules" for $99.95...

Re: ATCA:SFU What are the tactical styles of different fleet

Assuming that the ships have the same tactical "feel" as the other SFU games, here's a quick rundown: Federation: Speak softly and carry a big stick (overloaded photon torpedoes). Poor turning circle, deadly firepower. Good other facilities like science. Klingons: Tough guys DO dance. Excellent turn...

Re: Star Fleet Advanced Rules Preview

OK, I suppose that the cloaked ship is not causing any damage to the enemy is enough of a penalty for being cloaked. You'll also need to be careful when picking a spot to cloak or uncloak. You don't want to come under fire while fading out (only 4+ stealth) and you don't want to get killed before yo...

Re: Star Fleet Advanced Rules Preview

A couple of questions about the cloaking rules... When a ship decloaks "before its normal movement", does that mean it gets its 6" reposition and then may move another 12" as normal? So it can end up 18" away from where it is now, potentially? Ouch. Also, do ships still get a bonus for being within ...

Re: ACTA:SF are there any plans to release gaming aids?

Anti-ship guided missiles. Used in the SFU by the Kzintis, Klingons, and Federation (and some pirates) as secondary weapons. Most Kzinti ships have a lot of drone racks (missile launchers) and use the missiles to influence the maneuver of the enemy. Most Klingons have a pair of racks and use them to...

Re: ACTA:SF are there any plans to release gaming aids?

I seem to recall that the big box sets for ACTA:SF will contain drones and maybe other markers.

Those of us who play other SFU tactical games could easily use the cardboard drone counters. And ADB has metal drones and plasma torps, as well as some fighters.

Re: Star Fleet Advanced Rules Preview

Presumably this is intended to do the same as the plasma shotgun? That is, turn a weapon which can do lots of damage to one ship into a weapon which can do little damage to lots of small ships? Plasma shotgun is totally different to plasma carronade. Shotgun divides large torp up into smaller torpe...

Re: Star Fleet Advanced Rules Preview

In TOS, approaching starships were usually barely if at all visible as a dot unless the viewscreen was heavily magnified - that's what you're trying to hit with this "shotgun".[\quote] And yet, the Enterprise did just this during the TOS episode Balance of Terror , and damaged the Romulan Warbird b...

Re: Star Fleet Advanced Rules Preview

Admiral, I don't think the OP was referring to shotgun plasma, which is something totally different to hunting a cloaked ship by firing where you think the target probably is. In the SFU at least, not having a lock-on to the target doesn't mean you don't know where it is, it's just harder to hit. Yo...

Re: SFU Questions

The Federation New Light Cruiser is a war cruiser, it's just not called a war cruiser because of the Federation's political correctness. For similar reasons, the Gorn CW is called a heavy destroyer. The Kzinti war cruiser is the "Medium Cruiser". They are all CWs. The New Heavy Cruisers were built t...

Re: Star Fleet Advanced Rules Preview

In the source material (the TOS episode Balance of Terror ) you see the Big E blasting an area of space with proximity photons ("depth charges", really) and damage the Romulan ship. To be true to the source material, you have to be able to fire at a cloaked ship. Even if it is silly. :) As for what ...

Re: SFU Questions

Andromedan phaser-2s in particular are not phasers, but "something that works kind of like a phaser". The Galactic Powers never did figure out exactly how most Andromedan technology worked, so the data in the SFU "source tapes" is merely the Galactic intelligence analysts' best guess as to how it wo...
