Re: Corsair Question

That seems odd, because I can’t imagine any ‘policeman’ behaving like that. I have no problem with it, perhaps because we had an almost identical situation for many centuries of our own history. During most of the his- tory of the Holy Roman Empire feuds and small wars between local and regional no...

Play By Post -- Looking for players

Classic Adventure on the edge of the Imperium during the Fifth Frontier War! Strictly Business is a PBEM/PBP ‘classic campaign’ starting for Mongoose: Traveller. The setting is the OTU in the classic period during the Fifth Frontier War in the Spinward Marches. The intention is to start off with a ...

Re: Corsair Question

Basically to summarize opinions; war & commerce raiding within the 100D sure, knock yourselves out. War & commerce raiding outside the 100D is fine if you have the right paperwork, in which case the Imperial forces go from policemen to observers. That seems odd, because I can’t imagine any ‘policema...

Re: Sandcasters - how often and effect...

It seems apparent that the designers have aimed at a 'rock-paper-scissors' type of set up. Sand (almost) beats lasers, lasers (almost) beat missiles, missiles beat sand. House ruling sandcasters can defeat missiles almost certainly will unbalance space combat to a greater or lesser degree, so while ...

Re: Corsair Question

I can't cite the pages that establish the Imperial rules of war, but they are out there in some supplement. And warfare <> piracy. A planet raiding another planet's shipping as part of an armed conflict doesn't fit the definitions of piracy. But as was mentioned before, the Imperial authorities mig...

Re: Corsair Question

In the OTU, war is permitted if it doesn't involved Nukes and/or doesn't stop Interstellar Trade. Sure, but is that only within the 100D? ...is my question. No. Planets can engage in warfare beyond 100D, or even outside of their system. But no matter what, they still fall under the laws and regulat...

Re: Corsair Question

Do people believe war is only permitted by the Imperium within the 100D? I've never seen it written that it has to be restricted, except for no nukes of course, but it makes sense that it would be.

Re: Corsair Question

As their name belies, SDB's are just that - System Defense Boats. In systems where they are deployed, they tend to stooge around (i.e. lurk) on the fringes of the system, or hiding in/near gas giants. Their job is to harass/destroy the enemy. At 400 tons, and while they are heavily armored, they ar...

Re: Corsair Question

See the High Guard book, page 2. Planetary Navy usually has the responsibility up to the Main World 100D Limit, along with Gas Giants and/or any other inhabited worlds/belts. Subsector Navy handles the spaceways, trade/commerce across the Subsector. Imperial Navy defends the Sectors and Imperial Bo...

Re: Corsair Question

In terms of the paint job and the flaming eye. By the time you are close enough to get a visual on the corsair you are in deep trouble. Yes for a free trader, no for the system defense boat closing in to take a closer look at the strange ship ... I've never been certain, do SDB's operate freely in ...

I suppose shape is the main consideration, you won't really see the colour without some light. Although, that one does scream 'where's all the rum gone'.

@GypsyComet

Thanks for the info and deckplans!

========================

I found this picture of a corsair at the Traveller Library Data, who would agree this is roughly what a classic corsair might look like?

Looking at CRB p59 'Learning New Skills', do most of you assume if you learn a new skill in this way that you get it at level-1 or level-0?

Re: Corsair Question

Thanks guys, I found it in Supp 4, it was indeed 400tons, in fact the specs look very close to Mongoose. Can your recall if a CT Corsair deckplan &/or artwork were ever published (can you cite please)?

Corsair Question

Looking at the Mongoose corsair in the CRB its displacement is 400tons, if I'm not mistaken in CT it was 440tons. Can anybody provide a breakdown of the CT tonnage please?
