Oooo, what side of the Imperial border is this race on?! ;)
Not sure what the picture has to do with what is being discussed, but since it appears to be a rabbit you could make it one of the animals the Solomani have uplifted. Possibly to have a fast-breeding soldier?

Re: LASERs, Armor and Reflec Question / MgT2

Armor applies equally to all forms of damage unless it specifically states otherwise (like Reflec and Ablat do).

Re: Sub-Capital Escort Carrier

Its still a definition in the rules. The tonnage chosen was the closest to the capital definition while still being able to equip Distributed Array which can only be put on ships 5,000t and over as well as improved or advanced sensors. An Imperial definition with no mechanical impact (unlike the di...

Re: New player to Traveller

Communications should go a lot farther than the sensor table ranges. Remember, we had no trouble communicating with the astronauts on the moon (average of 384,400 km away). We also still communicate (but with a lag) with Voyager 1, which is billions of kilometers away. Communication anywhere within ...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

The computers have the same costs regardless of ship or station, bridges are a little weird in pricing though. It may have been errated or changed in another printing, but the core computers (not the normal ones) in the station chapter are cheaper than the same core computer in the ship chapter. Th...

Re: Radiation Trait?

There are long term effects for mgt 2ed, its under the Environmental Dangers section and its not just the crew you need to worry about. You aren't understanding what he is saying. What he is saying is that it is only a brief burst of radiation. The radiation doesn't linger in the area for the crew ...

Re: Space Mines

Meanwhile, missiles/torpedoes don't have that problem, and can be made as small as 10 tons. They do have limited ammunition, however. Quite, but small missile salvoes will be countered by EW (unless the target a lone Free Trader). According to the rules we can only form squadrons of 10 - 20 craft, ...

Re: Space Mines

In order to attack at a long range with a particle beam, you need a 100 ton or more platform. Weapons on small craft sized platforms (below 100 tons) have reduced ranges, remember. So any energy-weapon armed mine/defense sat has a very short range compared to starship weapons, or needs to be made ra...

Re: Artificial gravity and acceleration

The jury is still out on this for me. According to the rule book, the transit time for 1 AU (the distance from the sun to the earth - approximately 150 million km) is 27.6 hours at 6g. Using high school physics (a = (v2 - v1) / t), I did the sums. Assuming a standing start, after 27.5 hours at 6g, ...

Re: Best book (any edition) about the Imperium?

Do note that GURPS changes some things, however. The assassination of Strephon (and everything that results from it) doesn't happen in GURPS Traveller.

Re: Artificial gravity and acceleration

The artificial gravity overcomes the acceleration, top acceleration is 9 g now so of it got through the crew would be flattened. They do not feel anything. No lurching about during manoeuvers. Actually the term acceleration might not be the correct term anymore since it is apparently possible for t...

Re: Solar Panel based power system

Thanks for running the numbers. That's a bummer. I'm trying to create a "throwaway" colonial ship. One that's used for several back-and-forth trips, picking up colonists from Albe and dropping them off on Cordillon, and then the ships are stripped for their parts. I was hoping there would be a chea...

Re: Solar Panel based power system

Good points, Jeraa. The main concern would be expense, not tonnage. I haven't run the numbers yet, but if given up space for batteries is significantly cheaper, I imagine it could be economically sensible. Gotta spreadsheet it. Please note my math is off. It takes a battery larger than the ship its...

Re: Solar Panel based power system

I'm thinking about a big colony ship. The thing's primary purpose is to jump two parsecs. It might even have manuever 0 and just let shuttles come pick up the colonists. Is it feasible to build such a craft with solar panels as its sole source of power? Where are you getting power during the week i...

Re: Animals Initiative?

Fast Metabolism (+X): The animal has a heightened metabolism and very fast reactions. It gains a DM to initiative rolls equal to the figure shown in the Fast Metabolism trait. That is it. That is all it says. Nothing to determine what an appropriate value should be. No guidelines. Nothing. Most of ...

Re: Animals Initiative?

They do. But as it is up to the Referee to choose the appropriate DM, it is still making something up yourself. The Metabolism trait gives you the DM - no "making something up" required at all. I'm not 100% with no attributes for animals by any stretch, but the RAW do mostly work, No, it doesn't. (...

Re: Animals Initiative?

The metabolism traits add or subtract from the 2d6 roll IIRC. They do. But as it is up to the Referee to choose the appropriate DM, it is still making something up yourself. So I've decided/rolled the animal will attack, where does it then fit into the Initiative system? I would prefer to have rand...

Re: Animals Initiative?

What do Animals use for rolling Initiative? They are listed without Dex or Int stats. And that is one of the reasons that removing attributes from animals was a bad idea. There is now no difference between a creature that would be big and slow and one that would be small and fast (without making so...

Re: How long to fire up the Quattro?

The rules say differently. "The necessary clamps and cables and so on" is rather vague, however. Could count as a tow cable, or a docking clamp. Either way, it is possible. Your ship is 200 tons. The 2-Gdrive is 2% of that, or 4 tons. Far traders are 200 tons. Combined with your own 200 tons, that i...

Re: High Guard, Maneuver Drives, and the OTU

I was surprised to hear from a reliable source that the cap on MD ratings in the OTU was 6 for ships larger than 100 tons. I was unable to find any sort of rules reference to this, though. Could someone please point me to where this is stated? Thanks! BTW, this was brought up when I pointed out tha...
