The historical side is proving important for helping to set the scene for the players at the moment, any magical or mythical stuff has been very subtle so far and they've never been quite sure what was going on when it did happen (such as the Lapp magician sending his fetch to attack their ship in w...

Latest update on the campaign so far: The players travelled across Ast Agder to Red Sun fjord where Gudmund Thorkelsson was selecting crew and warriors for a Viking expedition in his newly built longship. As Egill fumbled a survival roll as they navigated their way across the hills I made him have t...

An excellent issue. Reading all the stuff from games I'm familiar with but don't play takes me back to my old (okay, very old) White Dwarf days. :) I loved 'The Enterprise' and the ship write-ups for Armada, both these are calling to me I have to say... just not enough time in the week to play them ...

In over 30 years of playing RPGs I've never really wanted to play in a Viking game, in spite of being Swedish, but now I do. The Vikings supplement is great, I can really recommend it. The magic system also really captures the feel of the sagas as well. The whole community based approach is new to ...

Right, the story continues with the spring assembly, the Thing, held at the Lawrock in the centre of the district: After some downtime where the players attended to their affairs, the spring assembly arrived and they made their way to the Law Rock at the centre of their district for this important l...

I'm in the process of scanning my maps and plans and typing up the local NPC's and stead write ups at the moment. Once I've got them all sorted I will be happy to share them with any interested parties. Best bet is to private message me your email so I can send them as word documents and jpegs if yo...

Here's an expanded equipment list I'm using for my Viking campaign. These values are my own opinion and have very little historical back up but at least they give a base to work from. Sorry about the formatting but it should be easy enough to follow. The modifiers for decoration and lining etc. work...

There's nothing to stop most shamans using pain or fear spirits, as these are fairly neutral to most cults, they can bind them and can release them to attack then try to command them back into their binding. My understanding from the S&P article is that the fetish has to be broken in order for the ...

Sounds odd.

I can report I have printed my copy of Vikings out okay without any issues. So I'm not sure where that leaves you.

Good luck with it.

Shamans aren't really geared up for physical combat, but they can pack a few surprises as well. My vision of how a shaman has traditionally operated is, she carries a bunch of spirits around and sends them to attack people. I think that's the root cause of the problems I'm having getting used to ho...

Elemental spirits are pretty lethal in combat too. Vulnerable, though. No parrying weapon, if you take the S&P interpretation. He needs to have a set of spirits ready to use to defend himself from magical and physical attack, There isn't much of the latter, you can get 2AP from a Magnitude 2 spirit...

It's actually defined best in the A&E errata found on the website: Steel: Steel is an alloy of iron and either carbon, manganese, chromium, vanadium, or tungsten. Steel is harder and more durable than iron but require different smelting techniques to create which may not be known in all cultures. Th...

Against other magic users he can use his fetch and guardian spirits to block spells and then either discorporate them or send in some more hostile spirits to attack them. He will also know some common magic spells as well, so he could use those to help out in a fight. Direct physical fights are prob...

Also you don't have to make it a mini-scenario. So to rewrite example 2 ... Yrsa spends 2 Improvement points and buys the bound spirit. OK, next question. Yrsa wants to use the spirit to attack someone. She commands it to come out of the binding object. It is now still on the mundane plane, though,...

Madoc the shaman decides to unleash a bane spirit on his enemies in the neighbouring clan. He's using chaos spirits? Is he insane?
