Ship shares DON'T replace down payment at time of construction. Only for purchasing a used ship. So the econ has to be figured from construction/financing forward. Otherwise there is no ship for the characters to have shares in... Nothing in core book about ship shares only allowed on an old vessel...

Frankly, there are so many typos and/or misunderstandings of "real" slug weapons in CSC that my copy is covered with corrections. When they move onto support weapons, or weapons which don't exist (ACR, gausss, energy) things just become bizarre (and don't get me going on artillery, missiles etc), Th...

Agree with most of the posts, stunners seem fine, good knock out ability but very short range, useful for law enforcement, or to provide a defence for anybody (player included) who want to avoid the complications of spilling blood. Note that they are much less useful against any armoured target, whi...

Terrific idea, Hopeless, but why set this campaign in the Spinward Marches? I would be inclined to create an entirely new sub-sector or two, tailoring the planets to what sorts would best fit in, and off you go (probably best to assign values for atmos, pop, law level etc rather than relying on rand...

I think that the sum total of this is very few of us allow BD as a benefit, and a few more allow CA, but not that many, unless we are running a specifically Merc or military campaign. The trouble with all the posts that point out how weak/overpriced BD is, is that BD is still better than any other a...

Does the Mercenary ticket renumeration work?

I originally posted this in a different thread, where it received no replies. Was that because nobody has ever used this system, or simply that the answer is so obvious everybody was too embarresed to tell me? "This thread has got me thinking a bit, and I even had another look a the Mercenary book (...

Watched that about 20 years ago, only part I can remember is the end, don't virtually all of them die? Is there a section somewhere that explains the pay grade amounts on trav mercenary tickets? More seriously, there have been a number of mercenary type activites in sub-saharan Africa over the last ...

Others have already raised this, but surely the running costs of combat armour and battledress would be signicant, esp in a month when they were actually used. Even 1% of cost per month would require 6,000 Cr for TL14 combat armour, and 35,000 cr for TL 14 battledress. I have always assumed that the...

One way of fitting the "armour" benefit in might be to allocate a value to it, say 2000Cr, if you want to buy combat armour, and don't have enough benefit, take a loan out. Obviously, this would have to meet whatever restrictions are placed on armour in YTU, but might be particularly useful when set...

This thread has got me thinking a bit, and I even had another look a the Mercenary book (read it once when I bought it, was not impressed, and had to blow the dust off), has anybody ever used the Mercenary Ticket chapter? In particular, the compensation "Pay Grade Amounts" don't seem to take any acco...

But Vagr fit the DnD orcs nicely + Raiders + Danger to border regions + Rarely if ever abel to overcome the strongholds + Uncontrolled/wild fighters Well, unfortunately one of my Vargr colleagues saw this and he is not happy by such monkey-centric non-sense. He points out that Vargr society represe...

Mustering out with battledress??!!? You are joking??! So Imperial Marine Sgt walks out to depot with millions of credits of kit. He sells it, retires, end of adventure. From a MTU point of view, its flak jackets, cloth, etc. Even combat armour stricks me as OTT. Tend to be stingy about weapons as w...

Yeah, I think we need to be careful about choosing straitjackets, different sci-fi novels and films work on different assumptions, if you don't like the assigned tech level, renumber it or throw it out. Even in a 3I Spinward Marches type second, if you don't like something, throw it out. How much "h...

Rather depends on how you imagine battle dress, and gauss rifles. Anybody in battle dress still has a significant edge, and only top of the range small arms, i.e. gauss rifles and laser rifles are likely to be effective. But I expect a certain degree of tactical sense in a skirmish, and, frankly, a ...

One thing I'm *not* implementing are the stuff in CSC. I am quite dubious about a lot of the stuff in there and IMHO it adds a lot of un-needed complexity. Yeah, I have mixed feelings about CSC, tend to stick to the weapons in MT core book, with one or two additions. With many of the pistols and ri...

BP, IMHO you are overanalysing some of this. A number of suggestions have been made about ways to allow characters with higher skills to fire more rapidly, any one of which will work. Allowing characters to increase initiative as they decrease accuracy (+1 intiv, -1 DM to hit) will cover most circum...

Well, there are a lot of daft miltary ship designs in HG, T & G and FS! Almost none have radiation shielding. Admittedly, this adds a lot more MCr to the price, but if Joe Zhodani shows up with radiation shielding, and you don't, you'll be the one floating arround in a irradiated escape pod. My star...
