Isnt the idea that short term spending on military assets (which get regularly blown up) takes away resources from long term scientific and technical infrastructure? And those worlds that do build up their scientific and technical bases (at the expense of the military) get invaded, damaged or pilla...

Trouble is, if starships are really that easy to make off with, a 20% deposit is still no deterrant, if, as you seem to be saying, you can sell it for the best part of 100%. Nope, fencing of high value goods RARELY nets >20%. Hence the 20% D.P. requirement. BTW - I NEVER said anything over 20%. Rer...

All good points for the prospective starship thief. Still you need someone to keep all those bounty hunting adventurers in work, no criminals to chase, no rewards to collect. Ah, they can chase after other types of crimals, doesn't have to be starship thiefs. Yes, for practice. The big payouts are ...

Why are the Sword Worlds not TL14?

This question came out of another thread, but is worth considering. The Sword Worlds are populous, industrial and resource rich. Close to the Imperium so able to buy and reverse engineer technology almost as good as the best in the Spinward Marches, or able to acquire said tech from their Zhodani al...

In my setting someone who wants a bank loan for a merchant vessel has to undergo a thorough background check and to present an economically viable business plan for a specific trade route or region, and the bank ma- kes sure that the ship's computer is programmed accordingly - leave the specified r...

I take it we concluded screw the Free Trader tables if you do not like them  A quick look at the at the Skipping on Debt table in the Core rulebook shows your going to spend your time on the run, for at least half a year. -1 per parsec so 5 weeks assuming continuous jump on a free trader is -...

You would be lucky to get 2%. Naw, much of the Vargr areas care a wit about Imperial law and will draw up their own paper. As has been pointed out earlier on the thread. Hell, with no D.P. or collateral required, Vargr are probably hiring Imperials to pull this scam. I don't know how some GMs keep ...

The Sword World's are not a bandit kingdom, but an advanced and moral culture based on honour. True, but at the same time below TL 15, so many Sword Worlds corpo- rations and perhaps even some governments could well be interested in the technology of an Imperial TL 15 starship, and therefore willin...

Besides, even 2 % of a 500 million credit ship could well be a serious temptation - many Imperial citizens would probably take even a much higher risk for those 10 million credits. Must admit that I would tend to set an upper limit of credit depending on the credibilty of the PCs, probably a max of...

I suspect that it would not be too difficult to get a fair price for a TL 15 ship in the Sword Worlds, and that Imperial repo men would not be ve- ry welcome there. The Vargr Extents would probably be a bit more ris- ky, but any Imperial organization would have even less of a reach the- re. And wit...

You might well struggle to sell the ship at anything like its purchase price, after all, you don't own it (yet) and it is relatively hard to conceal. Why would anybody but a criminal buy it, and they would not offer very much (in fact, they may as well just board it and kill you). You need ownershi...

Documents can be forged.
Yes, and for something as important, valuable and portable as space ships, the security measures will resemble those on Imperial credits. You had better have an incredibly good forger.

As to problems with finding cargo. Not sure where you find this unless you mean Mega Traveller (MT) rather then Mongoose Traveller (MonT). On a decent run (Traffic Value 10) you can find D6+6 (ave 9) Major cargos at d6 x 10tons (ave 30 tons). D6+7 (ave 10) mior cargos (ave 15 tons), more than enoug...

Best not sell it, you will need it to spend the rest, of your very short life, on the run from the mortage company's bounty hunters. Nah, LONG gone out of the Imperium ID changed. Bu bye. I would expect that the real owners of the ship (the mortagage brokers!) would expect you to file regular updat...

Start buying and selling the starships . Or, if you want life to be more interesting, start stealing and selling those starships ... 8) Yep, just order an 800t merchant ship for no money, pick it up when completed and hop across the border and sell it! Best not sell it, you will need it to spend th...

Look, I am not defending how tasers are used, and accept that they are not completely non-lethal, though how non-lethal they are would be hard to assess unless you know how many suspects have been successfully stopped by tasers, and then recovered fully afterwards. Still think that, as a %, the susp...

Medium Passengers are the worst possible thing to carry, unless you are getting Cr500 per ton from Merchant Prince with no broker do not carry mediums. Push the furniture aside and carry 3 tons of cargo in the empty staterooms. Yes I know staterooms are 4 tons but 3 tons is the stateroom and the ot...

Well, those "tasered" seem, in most cases, to get knocked down, which is the point about "are stunners too effective". Possibly, they don't all get up again. Still think your odds are better than if the policeman shoots you with a 9mm, though I accept that a taser is not really an energy weapon in t...
