One might even hire a female engineer, lease a shuttle to a "lady of negotiabel affection" and name the ship "Gelassenheit" or something like that :)

The Central Supply Catalogue has a table of living costs on page 182. According to this, a very poor standard of living requires 120 Credits per month, the average standard of living requires 400 Credits per month. The 5,000 Credits earned by a navigator according to the core rules would be the equ...

Don't start me on this, I could write a trilogy about the bugs of the vehicle design system ... Agreed. I bought both civ and mil vehicles (MonT) at the same time, might as well have saved the money of at least one. After about 20 minutes gave up on the system and went back to handwavium. Som...

A book I would like to see from Mongoose would be one that brings together the canon, esp on 3I, in an easily accessible way, to bring late comers like me up to date! I very much doubt that Mongoose will try to do this in the near future, it would be a true nightmare project for the poor author. :s...

I was imagining something like flares or chaff thrown out by missile as it detected a nearby anti-missile, but bascially that is the point, detecting missile will be easy, and the best decoy is likely to be another missile, so you might as well just fire two missiles (or better still, 200), and see...

As regards Traveller Cannon. Its a minefield of plastic mines with anti tampering covered by support weapons and razor wire in an active war zone. If you want to delve into the richness that is 30+ years of the best sci fi RPG out there (biased, Moi) check with ebay for old books or Marc Mi...

a clear vacuum in which the hot space ship and missile show up very clearly. Obviously, there is ECM to worry about (on both sides) There is no ECM for the hot missile. So, back to the question, we seem to agree that there are effective anti-missile missiles, and these have been available for 20+ years (I seem to remember pictures of a Sea Wolf missile intecepting a 4.5 inch shell, though that may have been a publicity stunt), and though there has never been a wide...

As a relative new comer to Trav I don't have the older, canon, material. Have done Imperial timekeeping on the basis of 30 day months (for salaries, maintenance, mortagages etc, and the 5 days left over are a kind of Imperial bank holiday, so your annual mortagages are paid by day 360. The players h...

Don't you think that makes things a little too easy?

Is the lack of missile on missile combat hits a consequence of very few opportunities, and a lack (thankfully) of many conflicts in the last 30 years between technologically equivelent opponents? In the 70s and 80s both the US and USSR spent a fortune developing anti-ship and anti missile weapons. D...

In regard to MgT, expensive, yes. Insanely so? Not sure, when you think about what these ships, even the basic ones, can do the price is probably pretty fair. Remember that when (if) they finally pay off that huge mortgage, the characters will be very rich. Depending on the campaign background, and ...

And low berths are much cheaper to buy and run, per passage. for most passangers space flight in jump would be pretty booring, better to sleep through it, unless low berths are so dangerous that there is a good chance of you not waking up.

Anyway to get back to the theme of this thread from back in the depths of time. Tramp merchants don't train in steward or medic as such, if they need one they hire some down on his luck traveller. Pilot, engineer and other such jobs related to flying the cargo they learn from each other. More than ...

Another point to consider with those forged documents. What about the serial numbers on every major component on the ship and many of the minor ones. Gives the game away a bit on your next maintenance when some tech replaces a part and updates the serial number only to get it flagged as stolen. Agr...

If the Swordies were as downright thick and aggressive as some of the posts seem to suggest, then their society would have destroyed itself centuries ago, or a combined Zho/Imp task force would have dealt with them. Well that Zho/Imp task force hasn't dealt with the Vargr yet... Probably because, o...

Yeah, but part of the point is that the Sword Worlders don't have to invent the TL14 gear, they can acquire examples from the Imperium, or the Zhodani, and copy, and they have had centuries to do that. Many Sword Worlders would do a physics PhD, perhaps after a term in the military with a demob gra...

Well SA managed to build the bomb, a number of native build armored cars, a combat helicopter and some very nice guns. So they had some industrial base. But take other "client states" if you prefer (South Korea, Israel, Taiwan,...) the result is similar. Without external help they are not "up to da...

Didn't the Swordies go through a number of near-collapses, internal revolts and strife during their existence? Not to mention that they started out rather small (Refugee convoi, think Galactica) so they had a small tech/science base to to start with (And a phase of "non starflight" IIRC) They are a...
