Re: Why Corsairs?

You know, talking about the whole capabilities of stealing a small craft.... The 400 ton subsidized merchant, with it's single cargo bay, forward and aft doors... it would make a MUCH better corsair than the corsair craft itself for this purpose. Mainly because nobody would really consider it to BE...

Re: Why Corsairs?

Working from MgT1 here... Surely the "Corsair" design started out as an "official" commerce raider, a privateer, cheaper than a real close escort, but with the disguise options, and the usefully large cargo bay. As a warship its rubbish, but quite capable of taking a merchant ship, which is the poin...

Re: Drop Troops or Jump Troops

Am I right to think that the 3I uses "drop troops", mainly Imperial Marines, and the Solomani use "jump troops", but basically we are talking about heavily armed and armoured soldiers dropped in capsules from orbit regardless of which term is used? I suppose the real answer to drop troops vs jump tr...

Re: Wealth Levels

Of course, in Trav the players could start many points up the wealth and/or experience scale. To be honest, if you want to build a campaign around these rather mechanist ideas, then go ahead, and it will be interesting to hear how you get on. Personally, this, and the experience based gain of "red s...

Re: The "Red Shirt" Rule

Unlike Star Trek, the players have to allot funds to care and feed Red Shirts and even then it doesn't guarantee the enemy will exclusively shoot them. Grow a spine and do your own fighting! Or get a robot. To get more detailed, a house rule would be set up, if a character kills 16 NPCs, or creatur...

Re: Perhaps FGMP/PGMP need a nixing/modding...

Coming a bit late to this discussion, though I think its one we have had before. :D Basically, have always felt the stats for battledress work fine, but, in a world where a light space fighter can be bought for just under 10MCr, felt that battle dress (and, for that matter, combat armour) was grossl...

Re: Consolidating damage mechanics.

I tend to that the rules mechanics do have a simulation aspect, which is fairly well achieved with the rules as they are, with separate treatment of damage to people compared to vehicles etc. Ah, but you see the rules don't do that, pretty much all damage is treated the same it just the results tha...

Re: Consolidating damage mechanics.

The, rather gory, reason being that flesh behaves differently to kinetic and explosive impacts compared to the resistant materials that most vehicles are made out of (of course, if there is a vat grown robot, or tank, involved, you might want to stat them as a person). You're missing the point the ...

Someone must have calculated the routes to construct the star charts, shame they didn't add the light year distances to each line as the same time" Hand typed in from the list then let the spreadsheet calculate distances between each system and then, becau...

Re: Consolidating damage mechanics.

Right now there two damage mechanics, one for characters and one for Robots, vehicles and starships. Both systems have roll dice for damage the Character Damage is then counted directly against stats while the other consults a table for the number of "Hits" then rolls on a damage table that has sta...

Re: 2300AD finding galactic co-ordinates on the Near Star Li

I'm not sure what the logic is in the 2300ad pdf in terms of how they ordered the information. In the original I think the list was alphabetized. This link might get you what you need: http://www.caco.demon.co.uk/2300ad/NearStar.html I guess that not alphabetizing the NSL in the current 2300AD rule...

Re: 2300AD finding galactic co-ordinates on the Near Star Li

The systems in the NSL have the x y z coordinates with Sol system as base 0, 0, 0. Use Distance = SQR[(x1-x2)^2+(y1-x2)^2+(z1-z2)^2]. Should work, right? BTW, years ago I did make a spreadsheet showing the distance between each system. A lot of pages! Not so useful if I want to find the co-ordinate...

Me and Colin have discussed doing something with them at some point.
Thanks for the info. Hope these plans do become publically available at some point.

2300AD finding galactic co-ordinates on the Near Star List

I hope that some more experienced hands at 2300AD can help me with this. Have just attempting to plot some stutterwarp drive journeys, which require the distance in light years between the start point and the end point to be calculated. Where the journey is between a world with a colony, that is eas...

Re: 2300AD, City Class Passenger Liner, deck plans?

There aren't any plans for the City class in any version of the book. At 5000 dt it's at the upper end of the ship size for 2300AD. The nearby plans are for the Astral Bulk carrier on page 240, or the SLV-50 lander from page 237. G. Thanks, at least the plan is missing from all editions, and not ju...

2300AD, City Class Passenger Liner, deck plans?

I have a copy of the re-issue of 2300AD, but it doesn't seem to have any deck plans for the City Class Passenger Liner. The stats are on page 239, but the nearby deck plans are of different vessels. Can these deck plans be added to the errata, or perhaps made available as a separate download? Thanks...

Re: 2300AD, a few questions

4. Powered landings, successful re-entry is a difficult astrogation + EDU + computer number, which is actually quite a big ask, even with astrogation 2, education 12 and a computer number 2, the odds are still not consistently survivable, i.e. +4 on these (optimistic) modifiers, would still see a f...
