The Timeline (thanks for the plug) should have the details, but the best sources are Spinward Marches Campaign, and the Fifth Frontier War game (which included all the TAS news dispatches).

SMC is definitely the definitive canon source -- even the TAS news dispatches from JTAS can have some problems.

I've had the most fun with Ine Givar attempts at sabotaging Imperial scout and naval facilities, and causing problems on either high-tech, high-pop worlds, or low-tech high-pop worlds on X-boat lines. The idea is that prior to FFW, the Zhodani (and therefore, its intelligence assets) are trying to s...

Say, is that Spinward Marches Sourcebook going to be playtested, and how does one volunteer to assist/comment?

I agree that if you want to model this, put it in a supplement. In the core rules, I don't see a lot of players eager to have this modeled in the combat system.

Is there an RPG that does model this?

Several of us who disagree with you on COTI understand your point fully. We just disagree with your perception of its impact, or how best to fix the problem you are pointing at. Let's just agree that while UGM seems nice, some of us prefer UTP; that doesn't make one wrong or the other wrong, it just...

I'm just trying to speed things up. For an experiment, in the middle of a game this week (ANY system), have a random player roll a six-sided die, and tell him to give you back the value of seven minus his roll. It's amazing how this tiny operation can totally stymie a grown adult. I've gone from lik...

Timing Die

If I might suggest a small change, rather than look it up, or consider the Timing Die result as 7 minus roll, it might be faster and easier to consider the Timing Die result as 1 plus roll?

It can be amazing how simple subtraction slows adults down while gaming...

Not the first time Aramis and I have agreed out here :) I agree... NCOs and decorations start breaking down what is a very clean, VERY Traveller system. Leave the CORE clean, and add those kind of messy details later; but please keep the CORE as CT-esque as you can, while as clean as possible. Draft...

This is really a limitation of the skill tables from Classic Traveller. MegaTraveller and T4 got around the problem via Cascades, but the problem is bigger than just Scouts and Survival.. For example, the following skills are unavailable to Army career characters in the first playtest draft: Advocat...

I've said this in other places, at other times. Start with the "Starter Traveller" or "The Traveller Book" format. Those were the most easily used, most easily portable versions of the CT ruleset. Have some oldtimers who can point you at the missing rules (little modifiers here and there, like weapo...
