house rule body locations

We're thinking about a new house rule for our game but I wanted to see if anybody else had tried this and had thoughts on it. For humanoids instead of rolling d20 for hit locations, you'd roll 2D10 instead. The effect would likely cause more hits in the abdomen and chest area while reducing the odds...

Absolutely, I'm running it now. So much easier in many ways and the party actually thinks before they fight. It's like a miracle or something!

Re: Sorry guys...

Lol... maybe you should give up using all sorts of things that get more complicated as you get older. There is no shortage of them. EDIT: But I do understand where you are coming from. I had to come back and admit that I hated where d20 went in 3.0 and 3.5 because it was cumbersome to me. So I think...

Re: Threats and Traps

I am so glad somebody posted a trap finally! Its one of those things you always see in roleplaying games and I simply didn't have a clue how it was done. Obvious now that you've posted two of them, thanks for flicking on the light bulb.

Re: astronomy

I wonder how much an astrolabe would run in silver. I see the compass is 100 sp, can't imagine the astrolabe being much cheaper than 500 sp or more. Based on some history channel show on how they were made I'd say even more. Maybe 1,500 sp even.

It appears that I was thinking too logically and modern when considering astronomy. Good suggestions.

How are you guys using Astronomy in your games? I'm drawing a blank on this one to be honest.

Re: Bestiary Thread

In case nobody remembers, Dan True's Ebberon has a bunch of good monster conversions in it. Although I doubt he's want them posted here in ones or twos. May he's like to post a list of them? I'd do it but it's his thunder, not mine.

Re: Bestiary Thread

Slightly off topic but can somebody repost the efforts of these threads on a Legend web/wiki site? I would but don't have the site to post them to at this time.

Well I am going to borrow your theme if you don't mind, it's very nice. I'll rewrite it the entire thing so at least I'm not ripping you off. Thanks again for posting it.

Re: Grimoires

Here are some Grimoires I created, based on an old game: Dragonquest , published by SPI. This is a .rtf file. It includes some of my notes on logic of grimoires, etc. As you will probably be able to tell from the various sorcery order notes, I use a Fantasy Earth setting for my game. Make changes a...

Re: Was this REALLY Beta Tested ?

We did briefly consider getting rid of damage altogether. After all, you get stabbed in the arm with a dagger, and then by a longsword. Is there _really_ any appreciable difference? However, we figured that would be a stretch too far for those used to more traditional games and we wanted to keep th...

Re: Creating Black Powder

I think that can over complicate a simple fantasy game. People play games to relax and not worry about the realities of economics. I know that I as a gm am more interested in my story than having to work out all those details.

Re: Creating Black Powder

At this point the crafting formula breaks down for me though. Because if you take a rifle of 5,000 silver and have 1 shot cost you 50sp... divide that by 5 for crafting time then you get 10 hours to make enough black powder for 1 shot. For crafting a sword that makes sense but not black powder and i...

I'm sorry but I thought the purpose the thread was to determine skills needed and information related to that said skill. Perhaps a separate thread is needed for the theory of how things are discovered? Edit: I hate it when somebody else posts a message the same time you do and it looks like you are...

Re: Creating Black Powder

I'm not chasing modern devices in medieval eras. Certain things existed and were available even if they weren't widely so... and soap was certainly available. In the 14th century black powder became widely available for military uses and was certainly around before then. Poison has been around since...
