Apologies everybody. I'm finding it very difficult to find much spare time at the moment. Work life has exploded and home life was suffering as a result, so the work life / home life / wargaming life balance has to be sorted out, and at the moment its the latter which is suffering. My plans for an ...

Funny you should say that - we have been talking to David 'Mr Naval' Manely about a number of projects, from expansions to AoD to new eras to set sail in. More news as it comes in! Missed this as my CPU was acting up as I posted. Good news, but any more detail on a time line? The has been talk on t...

Re: anything new coming out

Hi, I have AOD and am thinking of getting VAS. Is there ant planned expansions for these games? Many Thanks Rich. Rich, I am not sure...if you look through the threads there is talk of some new material for both AoD and VaS, but some of those threads are now a bit dated. Like you I am just getting ...

Thanks for the quick response.

I sure wish this forum were broken down into VAS and AOD sections. I did Search the 3 pages since AoD was released, but obviously missed that.

I was not sure if I was misreading or missing something.

Thanks again

AOD turning question?

Recently read the AOD rules a couple of times. I am confused on turning. Page 6 states that a ship can turn twice in the movement phase: once when it completes the first half of it's total movement and a second time when at the end of the movement. So a ship with 3 pts can basically do a 180 degree ...

1. Did you find a model for the HMS Otranto? The best I can find is a generic British Armed Merchant Alcantara from Panzerschiffe. Yes, Navwar make it in 1:3000. It looks nothing like a generic armed merchant - it was a converted Cruise Ship. 2. Halving means either no fire at all (if you round dow...

Re: Coronel battle report

Steve, two questions: 1. Did you find a model for the HMS Otranto? The best I can find is a generic British Armed Merchant Alcantara from Panzerschiffe. 2. I think there's a problem with the way Casemated guns work in heavy weather; I think they would be better just getting -1 to their AD, because o...

VAS and AoD Player aids

I would highly encourage mongoose to take a look at revising the way ship data is provided for both of these games as per this thread: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/forum.php Printing/publishing usable player aids in hard copy or electronically IMO would transform these titles from good games to...

I posted data sheets for all the ships needed for Dogger Bank here: http://www.fluffycat.co.uk/Dreadnoughts.html Maybe I should add the Coronel/Falklands ships, as I've done those as well. Thanks, I saw those in the another thread as I was looking. Yes, it would be greatly appreciated if you can po...

Feedback for Improving VaS/AoD

Let me start off by stating up front I do like the rules that are provided with both VAS and AoD books. I currently own VaS, oob and AoD. I bought them when I was deployed and had some time to read while I was considering a new Naval Mini rule set. At that point my naval gaming experience had been W...

* I Just noticed I have a typo on my SMS Leipzig ;) And on HMS Carnarvon . ;) Nice models, though! Good Catch. I fixed SMS Leipzig last night, now I have another. ;) The Falklands is one of the scenarios in AoD (although the Carnarvon is missed out - annoying as it was my grandfather's ship). I don...

The scenario is in the Rulebook, and the OOB is correct apart from the missing Carnarvon. The Bristol was definitely not at the battle - I have my grandfather's eye witness account which lists all the ships. Ok, what about the Emben? That is not listed in any historical account I have read includin...

Any new news on this front? Is there a timeline when we can expect something similar to the OoB for AoD?

Great Post...I am lookig to do the same battle. How did you determine your ooB?

All the sources I have seen only include 5 German Ships...SMS Emben is not present.

In addition to the British Units you have listed I also show the HMS Bristol as part of Sturdee's Squadron.

TIA,

Battle of the Falklands -1914 Fleet pics

Recently I decided to check out WWI Naval games. I was hooked by Avalanche Press Great War at Sea serries. They are very nice games on their own. I would like to venture out and use them to play the strategic campaign and minis for the tactical combat. If nothing else they are a great resurce for hi...

Thanks, I went back and saw the 1". So there is no gradual speed increase or decrease then.

I found the FAQ....at least the questions I was asking others were at one time as well. ;)

Movement question?

Please forgive me if this has been answered, but I could not find it in the book or here. I understand a ship must move half it's allowed movement before executing a turn, but what I could not find is how much of the allowed movement does a ship have to use? In other simulations I have seen ships ca...
