Totally worth those psi points to read your surface thoughts there ... :D

Re: Daring To Change: Innovation In The Third Imperium

I keep imagining MWM, pbuh, waking up on Christmas morning to a terrible clattering as the ghosts of Traveller Past, Present and Far Future gather at the foot of his bed. "Terrible tidings!" wails the Ghost of Traveller Past. "We think somebody in South Carolina has begun playing a version of Travel...

Re: Daring To Change: Innovation In The Third Imperium

This has strayed off tangent a little bit. Let's go back to the Third Imperium, shall we? And by that, I mean ... let's go and visit 1800s America as the century changed to the 1900s and we went up a TL. When the railroads came to the Western towns, they brought with them people from Back East; they...

I'd agree with that

I thought that folks had lost interest in that particular project. I've got a number of new spells to publish if people want me to post them.
Please do.

Re: Eight Years Of Mongoose Traveller

I'd rather see Droyne, Hiver and K'Kree come out before 2E Aslan, Vargr, etc. simply because we already have those in 4E, and it's not too difficult to convert. Those three books are the better part of a decade in coming. If nobody's writing them, they'll never come out. Mongoose need someone to st...

Eight Years Of Mongoose Traveller

I came onto this forum eight years and two days ago. Hard to imagine, because it feels like forever. For 2017, I currently have one Traveller item on my wishlist - the publication of the book I submitted to Matthew a short time ago, not long after finishing Castrobancla , and before I took up the pe...

Re: Ansibles: FTL communication

The one criterion you have to ask is this: does the invention sound a bit Heath Robinson/Rube Goldberg ? If so, it doesn't happen. If not, it happens and changes the universe. I'm sure that, even as Marconi was putting together his test equipment to bounce the first signals off the ionosphere, peopl...

Re: Daring To Change: Innovation In The Third Imperium

Its kind of hard to believe that the US Government would be building starships while continuing to operate the Space Shuttle and doing useless things in low orbit for public consumption as a cover. Some of the alien cultures contacted through the stargate probably began to wonder how the US governm...

Re: Daring To Change: Innovation In The Third Imperium

Universes tend to need boundaries to maintain coherency. I remember trying to get through the first hundred books of Perry Rhodan, and most technological breakthroughs seemed more like convenient plot devices. Consider Stargate SG-1 , and the differences between early season 1 and late season 8, or...

Daring To Change: Innovation In The Third Imperium

According to MWM, pbuh, in Classic Traveller there is no such thing as FTL communications, Jump speeds higher than 6, or anything more powerful and lasting in effect than monthly anagathics to stave off inevitable death. And for close to forty years, the game has chuntered on with those basic assump...

Re: Ansibles: FTL communication

It wouldn't be the Third Imperium anymore - not in any recognisable way. I'm not saying this is a good think or a bad thing, just that it would be very different. Oh, and one of the great forbidden technologies of the OTU as defined by MWM is that there is no FTL comms - ever. Note that MgT has bro...

Re: Ansibles: FTL communication

FTL comms mean the cops are waiting to get you in whichever system you run to. FTL comms means battle fleets can quickly be deployed to invasion points. FTL comms means the central government has much greater control over the frontier sectors. LOL And? They couldn't have caught Dr Crippen without w...

Re: Does Mongoose have any plans for Legend?

I've read Moorcock's Wizardry and Wild Romance , too, you know. And The Tough Guide to Fantasyland . Moorcock makes some good points, but there are a few places where he goues off the deep end. He does correctly diagnose the key weakness of Tolkien's work (i.e. that he engages in a degree of sentim...

Time Drives are featured in the new High Guard. As for the more fanciful alternatives such as the "bigger on the inside" thing, dimension drives etc., they'll have to appear in some supplement for High Guard, possibly with the title "Really Bizarre High Guard Tech That Will Really Make The Minds of ...

Just remember - with your intellectual property, if it's anything like Middle Earth, Elric or Lankhmar ... *looks at DamonJynx* it's being done to death already. Just look around at all the other stuff coming out for Pathfinder, Mythras and all the others.

Re: [JBE] Enter the State of Chaos

I loved one of the animal types listed in the appendix. I can see my psion Traveller employing them as pest controllers on board his ship. He'd keep them clean, feed them well and look after the little ones. And they'd patrol his air vents and ducts, looking out for crawlers, cleaning out gunk, spot...

Re: The passing of a legend. RIP Joe Dever

I've been consoling people on Facebook all night long. He was on my f'list, but we were not close. Some people, however, including a former associate of Mongoose, Charlotte Law, knew him personally and she was devastated. I've been watching so many professional RPG industry people reacting with shoc...
