Re: Some thoughts on Starports (non 3I rules)

The type(s) of starports ultimately depend on the setting. From the RAW long term life support works and airlocks do not loose air when they cycle. (No rules for it ;) ) So basically the life support element is handled. As for stations "far out" - why not if the system is a) Totally unimportant, jus...

Re: No grav tanks needed at higher TL's

I admit that me and my group are into "forget reality and reason - is it COOL?" camp. And a grav tank thundering over the plains, weaving left/right while firing it's 150mm Gaus cannon, lasers and guided missiles at three enemy scout tanks defines "COOL" for us old "Centurion" fans. So if needed the...

Re: No grav tanks needed at higher TL's

So then you have your own fighter's fly CAP; this issue was big on military forums a while back - airpower vs tanks, it fell off post Restore Hope. Of course. That has been the solution of choice since later WW1. But in Trav Mil sense, the other question is answered. Tanks get killed, space fighter...

Re: No grav tanks needed at higher TL's

I am sorely tempted to out the elephant in the room on this one. We need a design sequence that handles all kinds of vehicles, from bicycles to star ships, all in one go. No separate sequences for star ships, system ships or vehicles. They all need to reference a single scale of combat, no quantum ...

Re: Battlestar Galactica 3.0

One option for BSG would be to use a different FTL. The series (unlike the remake) never used a jump but rather what looked like a Warp drive. So maybe Stutterwarp is an option.

Re: Solomani Confederation (Military)

Actually I would drop the whole "Uncle Strephons Misguided Children" analog from the Solomanie. Partially to make them different, partially because I am tired of the "USMC in Space" stuff thrown around in every second SciFi universe. I also drop the "Heinlein" stuff (Powered Armor/Battledress) from ...

Re: Plasma Cannon And Fusion Cannon Armor Effects

In the case of the Aslan the question is mood anyway. The two tanks would stop 100m apart, the commanders get out and handle the situation in a 1:1 duel like proper Samurai. Same with Vilanie and by extension the 3I (Nuke the place from Orbit) As for Solomanie - they'll Blitz you so fast you won't s...

Re: Book 1: Mercenary Second Edition

Matt, how about a 3I version for some of the generic books? More detail of how Mercenaries, Psions, Scouts, and so on operate within the 3I setting. 3I specific add-on book(let) sounds good, even more so with equipment. I always liked the way the ships came alive when they had a builder, components...

Re: Starport X

Unless the system is a "stepping stone" that most/all trade ships must use due to range issues OR being a dramatical short cut I do not see a refueling station as a must have. A system without one will only be approached by ships that either have the legs to gon in and out on internal fuel or can do...

Re: Starport X

In the OTU "Class X" within the 3I borders (and due to history likely within the Solomanie Confederation borders as well) means: No Imperial (SolCon) starport in the system. Not even a fenced in ground / landing beacon ============ IMTU I automatically chance an "X" on an Imperial World to an E sinc...

Re: House Rules - Fixing Ship Fuel Operational Times

The problem with suggesting "use another rules set" is that a customer who does is most of the time lost to Mongoose. Let's face it for the price of the base book+a setting book I can get the complete rules set for Mega or TNE with all the setting etc. While some persons (like me) will buy the occas...

Re: WW II: The Battle of the Bulge with TL 15 Traveller equi

The key to "winning" Bulge is time. The germans IRL failed to move quick enough and could not take certain key points. So make them move faster and give them the (non nuclear) capability to disable places like Bastogne quickly so they can achive the targets. What can TL10+ do for the Germans: Okay, ...

Re: House Rules - Feel Free To Share Your Custom Rules Here

Ultimately we dropped the MgT Rules set and went to an MT/TNE hybridin my case and pure TNE with the other GM. But during the times we tried the MgT rules system changes done (Not all at the same time IIRC) included: Replacing CharGen with the TNE system (and skill tree) since "dictatorship of the d...

Re: House Rules - Fixing Ship Fuel Operational Times

Actually it should be resonable simple to upgrade existing ships: Assign a "Power Output" to the standard plants Assign a "Fuel per Power output unit and hour" to the plants Assign a "Power consumption value" to drives, computers, life support, weapons etc. Optional: Split "Life support" in Gravity,...

Re: House Rules - Fixing Ship Fuel Operational Times

GT is nice for certain "less tech more people" games, used it for Traveller some times. I do not like some "filters"(1) of GT that run counter to the MT/TNE version I prefer. And the compressed tech scale was also not my liking since I prefer more tech/engineering oriented scenarios TNE fixes the re...

Or if they where pressurised (IIRC B29, Me264 where) they did not have windows along the long sides and the holes in the hull (turret, cockpit) where of a less stress-prone form (round) and / or position.

Re: House Rules - Fixing Ship Fuel Operational Times

I wasn't recommending that in this particular case starships should have had drop tanks attached (though I tend to see it as an option) but rather that the tanker would have them, and if the situation was untenable, would drop them after refueling the rest of the task force, and with a much lower t...

Re: House Rules - Fixing Ship Fuel Operational Times

Drop tanks don't affect the 100D limit or visa versa. High Guard refers to drop tanks as Jump tanks and are jettisoned at the moment of a jump with possible misjump risk. These tanks carry enough fuel needed for a single jump meaning the ship has full jump fuel at the destination. This is either fo...

Re: What's stopping people from sharing high-tech informatio

Boeing was a major benefactor from the subsequent research that they did to investigate the cause of the crashes. But you get the feel that a lot of British aviation was very amateurish, whereas the Americans had their eye on the ball. Actually the Brits where rather professional just often "pushin...
