Re: Undeveloped Systems 2300AD

Most undeveloped systems are undeveloped for a reason. They lack either habitable worlds, or sufficient resources to justify large-scale commercial operations. You will still see some small-scale operations, and practically every system that can be reached by stutterwarp will have some trace of sett...

Re: 2320AD

There are some. The key difference from 2300 to 2320 is the Kaefer War, and i would likely approach that differently. The end result would be similar, but the hows and whys would likely change.

Re: 2320AD

It's complicated. I own 2320AD, in the sense that I own the text. What I do not have is the right to use the intellectual property of 2300AD, which 2320AD is built on. I suppose their remains the possibility that it may see the light of day sometime, perhaps as a sourcebook for 2300AD, or perhaps as...

Re: Keeping Time

The standard calendar is kept. There is even one for the year 2300 in the back of the book. Most colonies structure their day around the local day, but use standard hours, minutes and seconds. Of course, comps and links will track both the standard earth calendar, and the local calendar. Things like...

Re: Pistol Range v.s Handgun Range

The average "civilian" rifle in 2300AD fires a caseless discarding-sabot round. The FC-70 uses a 7x40mm round, with the bullet fully encased in the block of propellant. These "rounds" are not round, they are square in cross-section.

Re: Missile and Fighter Coil Discharge

Delaying discharge is part of the original rules, and remains canonical. It is seldom used, since the consequences of a failed roll are "everyone dies". Since the roll is Formidable (-4), even a ship with a decent Engineer (total DM +3) and a model 3 computer still has a nearly 50% chance of being d...

Re: 2300AD Buying Starships

This is what I get for replying off-the-cuff rather than from my notes. Call it "some" Libertines get their drives and/or hulls from an unknown source off the end of the Chinese Arm. The Manchurians are registering them without much hassle, though, so they, at least, seem to be aware of what is goin...

Re: Missile and Fighter Coil Discharge

That was an attempt to link the discharge to the distance covered, rather an a seemingly-arbitrary number.

Re: Missile and Fighter Coil Discharge

It's simply how I see it. Gamewise, the effect is the same. Regardless, this explanation appears in no official product, neither the original 2300 nor in the Mongoose version. It is not official in any capacity yet, its just how I've always thought of it.

Re: Missile and Fighter Coil Discharge

They build up no additional charge. The mechanics of charge/discharge are dependent on the local gravitational regime. In unstressed space, charge is built up rapidly over time, and there can be no discharge. In stressed space (the shelf) the rate of charge build-up declines dramatically, but effici...

Re: Missile and Fighter Coil Discharge

Within the "Shelf" stutterwarp vessels discharge as fast as they charge, so there is no buildup. In orbit, they discharge at a faster rate than they build up charge. Due to the need to keep them combat ready, missiles and fighters are carried in an "on-line" state, ready to go at a moment's notice. ...

Re: Pistol Range v.s Handgun Range

Some things were not caught in editing... Yes, handgun/pistol are the same. Rifles are a generic range category in Traveller, and cover heavier hunting rifles and battle rifles, in general. Rifles in 2300 are high-powered designs, equivalent to the ACR of classic Traveller.

Re: Merchant Prince rules in 2300AD

You could, but keep in mind the economics of shipping in 2300 are artificial, with most non-Libertines being subsidized to some degree or another by governments and corporations.

Re: 2300AD Buying Starships

No one actually knows where most of the Libertine hulls come from. Some of them appear to be old surplus hulls, while others appear to be copies (ripoffs) of older designs. None of them are stolen. Many of them use commercially purchased drives that are shipped up the Chinese Arm somewhere, and come...

Re: Sell me on MgT2300

My vision for Starcruiser II is a complete starship design system, drawing everything together so only one book is required. On top of this goes both a RP combat system (more abstract, but ensuring that all players have something to do every round) and a miniatures/battlemap/tokens sort of system. B...

Re: Sell me on MgT2300

Fire away. While I do intend to do Star Cruiser II, there are at least two or three books to be done first. However, feedback on starship design and starship combat will inform the final book.

Re: Sell me on MgT2300

Integrating starship combat wasn't particularly easy, since I had to stick with the general concepts of Mongoose Traveller starship combat, and the two do not entirely gibe. This resulted in range and scale changes to most aspects of starship combat. My goal was to try to keep the flavour of 2300Ad ...

At 200 tons, it's about the size of a traveller free trader. Ian actually worked out the deck sizes and heights based on his model, so I would think that they are fairly accurate. Over 25% of the design is fuel...
