Re: Traveller: Liftoff - New Box Set

Hmmm. I wonder if you (well, me) could make a 2300AD "Powered by Traveller: Liftoff!" thing where the rules are integrated in to the setting book...

Grav Vehicles for sale on RPGNow/Drivethru

I just posted a new book of grav vehicles for Traveller on RPGNow/Drivethru: http://www.rpgnow.com/product/119916/Grav-Vehicles

They are for a setting that is under development, but usable in any Traveller game. Not from Mongoose, but my own imprint, Northern Edge Publishing.

Re: 2300AD: MHD Turbines, Huh?!

Tech assumptions for Mongoose 2300 were based on the original tech assumptions of Traveller:2300/2300AD, and the Naval Architects guide. Fusion and fission plants are fairly large, with a high minimum size, but produce power without an external fuel requirement. Fuel cells are small, but expensive w...

Re: 2300 AD: Sung ion drives and light sails, I don't buy it

Robot ships are possible in 2300AD, though typically only for system ships.

Re: 2300 AD: Sung ion drives and light sails, I don't buy it

Sung technology has gaps in it that would look strange to an outsider. Limited ground vehicles, poor road systems. Ground effect vehicles ala the ekranoplan are more common. Cargo transport is by railroad or ocean-going ship. No airships at all. Cities are vertical rather than horizontal, with many ...

Re: 2300 AD: Sung ion drives and light sails, I don't buy it

The Sung do not use nuclear fission at all, due to several bad experiences with it within the past 100 years. Fusion reactors are significantly more bulky, and not suitable for use as space drives. While Sung technology is largely on par with human technology, it is somewhat higher in medical scienc...

Re: AD2300, N00B, Is this game really that deadly?

Within the 2300AD setting, there are opportunities for Mercenary troops. Most of the time, they will be on training/cadre missions, helping a planetary militia. Other times they may be called in on counter-insurgency ops. Using mercs allows the governments to ultimately disown and atrocities committ...

Re: Where can I find 2300AD ships?

That was an LC-20, a much bigger beast. The LC-10 is a similar shape and style, but only ever mounted a single autocannon, along with a pair of 12mm door guns covering the read hatch (but only when it was open). It is small scale lander, designed to transport a single squad and their vehicle.

Re: Where can I find 2300AD ships?

The volume for starship fittings is about 1/2 for the fitting, and about 1/2 for things like hallways, life-support and the like. The LC-10 in Rescue Run is a small (40-ton), stutterwarp-capable lander with a limited range, capable of carrying a small vehicle and a few troops. As presented it is una...

Re: AD2300 More DNAMs?

Unlikely to get much through the quarantine around the Core worlds, but it is possible.

Most Frontier worlds would be at least accepting of new DNAMs. However, since many colonists have already been modified, new mods would be subject to the "stacking" rules in the core book.

Re: Where can I find 2300AD ships?

The various 2300AD books themselves (2300AD, French Arm Adventures, Tools for Frontier Living, Rescue Run) all have deckplans in them. Another good outside source, especially for spin hab ships, is "Chtonian Star"

The upcoming French Arm Sourcebook will have 30-some odd ships in it, too.

Re: AD2300, N00B, Is this game really that deadly?

Damage and armour is a common Traveller issue. Basically, yes, it is that deadly. However, this is your game. If you would prefer a different level of lethality, then I would recommend increasing the protection value of the armour.

Re: AD2300 More DNAMs?

There are three DNAMs that are permitted on the Core Worlds of Earth and Tirane: merman, zero-gee, and gender-change. Any other type is allowed to visit for up to two weeks, but not to stay permanently. Within the context of 2300AD's history, there are no other *legal* DNAMs available. Legal researc...

Re: First impressions – 2300AD – Tools for Frontier Living

I admit to some frustration here as the writer, cartographer, and, I guess, "line evangelist" (2300AD is, basically, me, with some much-appreciated assistance from luminaries such as Ian Stead and Gavin Dady, among others). The cover art is fantastic. I wish I had a poster of it, and indeed of all t...

Re: First impressions – 2300AD – Tools for Frontier Living

"Design" vs. "Generation" is a fair point. It isn't a design system, its a colony generation system, based very heavily on the Mongoose Traveller character generation system. I thought it was a good paradigm for creating colonies, which are dynamic and change over time, like characters. I actually h...

I'm glad you like the written material, and my maps. I provided the art direction for the rest of the book, though I did not see the finished work until after it was published. Sometimes in can be difficult translating the written art direction into images, though.

Re: First impressions – 2300AD – Tools for Frontier Living

I'm glad you enjoyed it Ian. I very much enjoyed writing it. Future 2300AD products will make use of the colony design systems, spacesuits will use the suit design system, and they will continue to feature the same map style.
