What does everyone think about the snub weapon ranges in CSC? Most of them are given the Shotgun range band, except the snub derringer, which has Pistol range. Indeed everyone is right. FWIW, I have legal classes for weapons. Particle weapons are not civilian legal. They are military weapons IMTU.

Diplomacy might be a good skill to use as well, depending on the situation. Certainly, to figure out if someone is holding something back in a diplomatic exchange, I'd use Diplomacy over Investigate.

I agree with the poster who said that the negative of failing is not making things better fast enough. That's why I created some new damage house rules--to make it important to get attention FAST after you just took a buttload of damage from that critter looking a bit too much like a T-Rex.

The range is listed in the table on CSC 71 as "Assault Weapon."

Most "carbines" use the Assault Weapon range unless otherwise stated. I also don't use the Carbine specialty, as I think it just creates too many unnecessary weapon skills.

Makes more sense to me than rolling out the attacks on a 3000+ ton ship. It's fairly clear where you stand on your "fidelity requirements" for a game, but for many others, those Barrage rules make ship combat with big ships possible. Yes, but only by a +3 DM. The difference won't be as dramatic due to that and the lesser Barrage Strength. But against lightly armored ships, they will be more than sufficient. Okay. The basic 4d6 torps aren't nearly as great at killing large ships. Plus, they don't get the advantage vs. point defense. Well I'm assuming nuclear dampers, which don't affect bomb-pumped laserheads. As for the armor, it most certainly is more effective against the missiles. Against decent armor, missiles will have little chance of causing damage. Especially since most anti-cap ship torps will be bomb-pumped lasers. So a 100-ton torpedo bay will launch 6 of those 6d6 torps for 36 barrage damage. A 100-ton missile bay launches 24 missiles for 1d6 each. Those 1d6 missiles...
