Re: Missile Drive velocities

I know this was debated a lot before the first book was published, but I was reading an article about Turkey's S400 purchase and the size of the launcher and missile made me think that the Traveller version is still broken - especially since we regularly have designs popping up that have starships ...

Absolutely. Have been arguing this for years - the Troupe style play is absolutely suited to Traveller.
It's not like we haven't discussed it before. It works amusingly well.

I don't think FFE has all the MegaTraveller Alien books on PDF.
Yep, both of those books were done by DGP.

CT and Gurps are the only two that had the full range of Traveller Aliens.

All this to-ing and Fro-ing is amusing me.

Traveller has been here before.

Star Frontiers. Need I say more?

Amusing factoid about that Star Frontiers served as a Gateway to Traveller.

You might want to fish around in the older topics on this board, This has come up before. And a some of the issues have been discussed as well... Re: Weathering high stellar radiation

9 The optional Radiation Shielding system gives us some clue. Normally a spacecraft hull protects against 500 Rad [presumably per turn?] Well, how does it attenuate the other 999,500 rad that the ship is exposed to while transiting to refuel from Jupiter? Or with the GOBS of excess power available t...

2) what is the range of an accelerator rifle?
The Accelerator Rifle has always been a short range weapon. In CT Striker it had an effective range of 25 m.
Well that is only half right, It's most damaging range is Long Range. As it take 25 meters to get up to rifle velocities....

Some things I learned from Kerbal Space Program: Space stations grow organically by docking bits onto them. You can realistically expect to build loads of docking ports on a space station, and they could stick out at all angles. I've designed some awkward ships such as heavy cargo landers for vacuu...

Re: Modding (or managing) Combat

It really depends on the games you run. Most of my games the term Pistol and Knife work, is the most apt description. Especially when you add in Cloth/reflec armor. The most common weapon/ammo in said games is SnubPistols/Tranq. Also consider Stunners, as a common armament. But the biggest thing to ...

Re: The Type-Y kind of Yachts we should be seeing

I'm betting the big slow Yacht is quite luxurious while the racing yacht is "just" luxurious. It really depends, do you find Speed to be a Luxury? Don't get me wrong no expense was spared on the racer, but any Luxury that costs extra mass is discarded. That flip-down berth that would be made of exp...

Re: The Type-Y kind of Yachts we should be seeing

The Type-Y as presented in the books over various iterations has always seemed wrong to me. Why? It's a small privately owned starship. In the light of the real world it makes perfect sense, yachts largely are median performance vessels. Looking at other commercial ship's in it size class it's perf...

Most ships is Traveller have contra-gravity ... Only in TNE. In CT, MT, and MgT1 they don't. Point of Order, Yes only TNE describes Contra Grav as a gravity screen, but the bulk of the rules treat it like earlier editions of gravity drive. CT, unstated whether or not, specifically. But looking at S...

Re: Removing Hardpoint Limits: Necessity or Heresy?

Kinetic kill predates GURPS; the moment the weapon designer realizes how open ended the velocity of a large missile can be in Fire Fusion and Steel. Predates TNE as well. It was one of the early conversations on the TML. I know they showed up in SF before that as well. In Fact it is in response to ...

I am amused at another one of the Classic discussions once again surfacing. Must say lots of good ideas and thoughts. Here is how I handle life support. General cost of 4 dTons, 500Kcr per person, this covers the volume and cost of core personnel spaces. Particularly cramped ships go down to the dou...
