Re: PC weapons vs. Mercs vs. Naval

How does everyone else run their stuff? My favourite setting does not have armed civilian ships, only the military operates armed ships. On planet civilians may own hunting weapons, but all other projectile weapons and all energy weapons are prohibited. The only type of armour which is socially acc...

Re: SDB's vs. Warships

In my settings most developed planets have at least some armed satellites in orbit. Therefore a ship follows the official flight corridor and lands where ground control tells them to land (and where the customs officials are waiting to inspect the ship) or is treated as a hostile intruder and dealt ...

Re: Cargo Transport

standard container sizes carried would be something like: small: 1000 dTons x 100 medium: 10,000 dTons x 20 large: 25,000 dTons x 8 maybe also a few extra-wide and/or wide&tall containers are sometimes loaded for shipping exceptionally large items. The size of the containers would depend somewhat o...

Re: SDB's vs. Warships

The best bang for your buck militarized ground vehicle is the four wheel drive Toyota pickup, and it's cousins, also referred to as technicals. I don't see those replacing Bradleys, Jackals or Warriors anytime soon in the NATO arsenal. The new generation of light armoured vehicles currently introdu...

The MHD turbine is the power plant which generates the electricity
required by the plasma drive to generate the thrust.

I do not have my GURPS Traveller material at hand, it is on
some backup disc, but I seem to remember that it does not
mention the actual power generation capacity.

Re: 2300 AD: Sung ion drives and light sails, I don't buy it

We have not done much research into ion drive concepts, it may well be that a more advanced technology could de- velop ion drives which would allow comparatively short in- terplanetary flight times. Just take a look at the VASIMIR concept, it is much better than what was considered pos- sible only a...

Re: P-Plant Fuel

I kind of assume that the true answer is "they made stuff up without research" ... I think it is one of the cases where the authors of Classic Traveller relied on faulty informations circulated at the time when the origi- nal game was written, and later versions just copied the faulty da- ta. The e...

Re: AD2300, N00B, Is this game really that deadly?

I did once run a combat heavy campaign based on GDW's boardgame
Bloodtree Rebellion with the Classic Traveller rules. My most important
experience with this kind of campaign was that it is not a good idea to
get accustomed to a single character too much, they just die too often.

Re: Small craft and jumping

How does small craft work with regards to ship mass and jump drives? Say I want to include a pinnace on my ship, would I need to set aside 40 dTons for that when designing the ship? How about if my ship carries the pinnace externally?  High Guard contains rules for small craft hangars and for docki...

Re: Traveller Cosplay ?

Because we are not 12 years old and we do not live in Japan. And the only way we would do that is if we were going to have scientifically inaccurate Traveller Sex with an actual, and not imaginary, Solomani female before, afterwards, and possibly during a convention dressed in similar fashion. I so...

Re: [Zozer Games] Planetary Tool Kit 3: Mazandaran

If there's a single river that huge then there must be thousands of great tributaries. Not necessarily, for example the Nile's rather long northern section between Khartoum and the Mediterranean has no major tributaries at all. A river could exist with only a sufficient source, for example large hi...

Re: New setting for Traveller needed

Simply using a form of realistic UWP procedure* and eliminating grav technologies will change much. These things are simple rules changes, but not game system changes. House rules, really. A more realistic UWP procedure may be seen as a house rule, but eliminating grav technologies would in my view...

Re: New setting for Traveller needed

System does matter. A setting that keeps the same rules and technology assumptions of the core Mongoose Traveller mate- rial can only have a different kind of window dressing (like dif- ferent interstellar states, different alien races and thelike), but on the player character level there could only...

Re: Is The K'kree Navy A Threat - I Think Not! / Virus

If the K'kree don't evolve their psychology (which I admit seems more likely), being anesthetized for various reasons might be pretty routine and acceptable to the K'kree who consider it uncomfortable but the lesser of two evils. It should not be difficult for the K'kree to develop a sedative which...

Re: General skill vs. Specialty skill

WHEN we get around to designing laser weapons, wouldn't we DELIBERATELY make them operate similar to a conventional slug thrower? Not saying the internals are the same, but it would look basically like a rifle and you would hold, shoot and aim it like a rifle. Exactly. China and Russia have develop...

Re: Interstellar Sophontarian Law ?

'Sentient' on the other hand means "having the power of sense perception or sensation; conscious" or even (rarely) "a sentient person or thing" ( http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sentient?s=ts ), which is exactly what we're after here - so why is there a need to use another word? For example ...
