just my opinion and mine alone

I never had any problem with the 'physical' output; aka world size/atm/hyd, etc. ..and I'm not knowledgable enough to worry about stellar types and the like. There is enough info on the 'net to generate as much accurate detail as you can stand about those sort of characteristics.. My concern is the ...

I'd like to see how Mongoose does with it. If they go for the reasonably realistic, how will that compare to the already widely accepted OTU UWP's ? I think that the ordinary 'standard' method should be 'basic' and the detailed realistic should be optional without care or regard to the old OTU world...

LBB's with change left over from buying SPI's 'Airwar'...late '77 I think...it was a long time ago. I bought everything I could get my hands on for Trav, but ended after MT because I can't keep spending money on things I pretty much already have, so I pick and choose pretty ruthlessly. I play heavil...

It all depends on how you interpret 'tech levels' My town is pop-3 ( 2500 people ) I can order pretty much anything and have it shipped here, making my town as hi-tech as USA can produce or get from somewhere else... BUT We cannot make much of anything on our own...cut off all outside transport and ...

Trillion Credit Squadron use 1 trillion credits as a way of forcing play balance by giving each side equal resources, much like the points used in 'Assault' or 'Boots and Saddles' to set up scenarios. It was never meant to model Imperial economies. I think the base problem is the way UWP's were form...

If one sees tech level as being local manufacturing capacity, world's like 'new somalia' are a snap. low tech yet able to import anything it can afford. Of course it would also have to import proper replacement parts and support too, but a some repairs can be made with files and hammers and other lo...

I dunno...zero-g means no wieght at all....
And yet they are bulky and so dex would suffer I'm sure...also, I don't know how easily they bend at the joints...harder than a t-shirt, I bet.

I agree there should be -dm's, just not for encumberance.

I voted 'homebrew'

I'll cherry-pick what I like from the otu, yet I won't be stuck with parts I don't like. Official settings don't interest me so much as non-setting-specific info about ships, vehicles and worlds.

I use something similar to Aramis' method with a couple of differences; margin+pen-armor+1d6 This number goes right into an expanded form of AHL's damage table. the 1d6 is to make the numbers about right as AHL uses 2d6+pen-armor and to delete my 1d6 would imply that margin averaged '7'. I also use ...

TNE did that. Big ships couldn't meet CT performances due to radiator limits. (The radiators too up too much hull, so many turrets got converted to many fewer barbettes, due to the effects of the square-cube law.) Also, it made ship design yet another level more of a pain. Compare the primary axes ...

In my opinion, number of turrets, bays, etc*. should be based on the surface area of a ship's hull, not its volume.... and within a surface area limit, pack on as much as you can fit. *includes area taken up by thrusters, radiators, landing gear, sensors and anything else you're brave enough to list...

I prefer to 'design' battledress as a one-man legged tank.
I don't care for the official rating for combat armor as it mass a lot to get those AV's.

BD to me, is more like 'landmates' from the manga "Appleseed"
CA is like star wars stormtroopers ( whose armor didn't help them much )

I think it all depends on how you view tech levels... Is it a measure of local rpoduction abilities? or is it the tech of available goods? The OTU's use of starport type as a modifier to tech indicates the latter. Starports being where hi-tech good filter onto a lo-tech world. But it also means that...

I prefer to keep it to 2d6 I prefer to not require tables and special dm's... Thats the main reason I made my own UWP system. Some 'weird' worlds are admissable, just not too many ( very few for me. ) Physical is harder to explain away than the social. Avoid placing too much emphasis on terms like '...

thanks for the welcome..and I'm glad you like it. The advanced social stuff...well...I am not sure if I can type in a fair section of someone else's work legally, so I decided to err on the safe side. Maybe I'll finish up a spreadsheet for world building based on it and other ideas. thanks for comme...

a no vote from me

I'm afraid I had to vote no. I think the t/e dice is innovative and neat, but doesn't add much to the game mechanic which seems a variation of pretty much every other task system...choose difficulty..add dm's roll higher to succeed.... Unfortunately for me, the t/e mechanic does not 'play' right wit...

my uwp method

Here's my uwp generating method that puts a damper on weird uwp's and 'odd' tech/pop/physical characteristics. Its not perfect and some strange stuff gets through, but not so often....just change what doesn't 'feel' right. http://moukotiger.googlepages.com/my_uwp.doc Someone suggested I show it here...
